just realised meaning of that red shape in right corner.. it's not kind of artistic/print style decoration.. it's a part of R that you "sort of" kept on the part of the original picture that you took as a base for the pic. I feel rewarded now... when I realised what is it. Good job.

A man of war trauma. Nobody knows John Rambo as well as Twoflower. Excellent.

I love this in a way, and also hate it... because it is no rambo for me... he is something else here... but that would maybe be the reason why you created it this way? And it is truly a splendid work... I just do loose the rawness and rambo that I want rambo to be... but again I guess that were the point, to portray him that way as rambo is in nature only good... it is one of the best but also a worst... but crftmanship I gotta dig... I want him to be plain and raw and not polished and just dirty in a way...

I also selected contrast colours and converted them to vector and them rendered them out as shapes but I got about the thing you have here and I did not like that... rambo is no saint in a way... he is dark for me... but had a legitime reason to have revenge.

has a very tiny bit of Picasso'ish-ness to it. Love it :)

I would do it with Illustrator livetrace too ;-). But it is handpixelled as seen in workstages. I like how it started.

Nopes, no Illustrator-stuff. For the quick rough work and keeping char-restraints I used a Wacom / penpad. The details have naturally been fixed on a pixel-level. Take a look at the workstages and you get what I mean.
