@algorithm: by hires i ment bitmap mode, not charset based.

Looks much better now. And the music from Drax fits really nice even if perhaps a boys, boys boys cover would have been more fitting.

Groepaz.. yet, it hires (or interlaced mcol) is possible. it only requires 2 codebooks (for each field)

Looks a LOT better without the flicker imho. now i'd really like to see some longer sequences, a lot of those in this demo could probably be even done in hires with some clever packing =P (for comparison, some of the anims in reanim8ed have ~100 frames, even the hires one has ~50 frames if i recall correctly)

nah, flickered version seems to be more smooth, it looks as if higher framerate was achieved. nonetheless, my eyes prefer non-flickered sabrina ;)

included a slightly modified version which does not use frame blending.. tell me what you think. i still prefer the other method

Nicely done, though it flickers a bit too much... can't wait for the improvements =)

@algorithm: I appreciate your work. Your PC tool is very nice. But I agree that it needs some improvements.

Ok. overall, this demo was just created for a demonstration of the quality of the decoded video. each frame (full screen uncompressed) uses 1k of ram with a universal 2k codebook charbank (which is tailormade for the specific animation sequence)

The demo is nothing special, it is merely just flicking between $d018/$dd00 while loading the next animation sequence (which normally is a basic ping pong sequence). as mentioned before, the secret is in the PC side which decides the optimum character set to use for the entire animation sequence.

Things can be improved immensely.. idea for interlaced 320x200 using only 1 additional charbank (8 shades). If anyone wants to volunteer to create the boys, boys boys soundtrack, then maybe it will be time for Sabrina 2.

Nice. Can't say I find the flickering too annoying, she's waving her tits 'n arms from left border to right border anyway. Good choice of music as well.

maybe some one that knows how, here at csdb. should go for a full length "sabrina-boys,boys,boys" music video with a new sid remix of the "boys, boys, boys" song.... if possible this would be very cool :)

heres the video -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eiuHdUkuRi0

"I was hoping for longer vid sequences" yes indeed, that would show how well that quantizing actually works.

What Oswald said.
Furthermore, a nice proof of concept.

I was hoping for longer vid sequences... the averaging for inbetween frames hurts like those 'interlaced' 8x8 plasmas :P and please dont call this streaming. however thumbs up for the effort to make a full fledged demo out of the anim system. :) can we some details about the number of frames / needed memory ? looks to me it needs some hard compromises to make something longer with it.

@Deekay: i wouldnt really call this FMV, these are simple small looping clips just like in reanim8ed (and other demos). the dithered charset looks quite nice i have to admit, the flickering between frames looks 100% crap though imho - flickering between two adjecent frames to get the inbetween frame in avarage is just as stupid as shooting one meter left and one meter right past a duck so its dead in average =)

Nice! ;-) Does not work properly in Power64, even with true drive emu on. Gotta check it out on the real machine to judge smoothness, but it does seem pretty decent, atleast much better than other streaming-disk FMVs I've seen so far (4x4 without dither etc!)
