I like it, but why why why MCI?! Its a shame the plants don't have reflections - but I can't talk I've not pixelled anything for ages now!

I like it. It's whimsical and well pixeled. The composition seems fine to me - the snail is heading slightly to the right, so it's positioned slightly to the left, and the plants balance that.

My only dislike is the flicker inherent in MCI.

I used my eyes to judge the picture without calculating and analysis. I hope thats ok. :)

I wasn't meaning to move them into the centre, I was meaning move them considerably closer to the right, along the equivalent of the line highlighted in the linked photo. Placing the more prominent object to the left of the picture doesn't look right to me in many cases, though I realise there are probably lots of examples where more talented artists would prove me wrong!

Since when do you care for art-rules, tempest?? ;)
Anyways, I like this picture, despite the lack of clean definition. Maybe Leon just likes blurry stuff.

If I'd base this picture on golden section/ratio, I wouldn't move those snails to the right, but perhaps a little bit to the left (see http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/d9/ParthenonGol..) If they would be moved to right, they would in the center of the screen. And placing the main object in the center of the picture is rarely succesful, unless both sides around the main object - their space and other possible objects - are in balance. In this case the main object is where it "should be".

You'll have to observe the angle of the main object when making a composition; is it "pointing"/going in some direction? This usually sets the placing of the main object on the vertical axis.

If I'd change something in this picture's composition, I'd move those snails a little bit lower. And what's with the reflection? "Jesus reborn..." :)

I agree the plants don't really fit with everything else. If I'm being ciritcal, I also think the positioning of the snails looks wrong. IMO it they should be closer to the right-side with more leaves of the left (if in doubt, just base it all around a golden section!)

Hoild, you have too high expectations. I'm guessing the pic Leon copied didn't have those plants in them, so he had to copy them from somewhere else or *gasp* do them from scratch without a reference, which is why they crash with the rest and you get these green leaves floating randomly in the background. What the original pic did have was probably a couple snails on a shiny surface, explaining the reflection which I can't really see happening in a natural environment unless that is Jesus reborn as a snail floating across a pond or someone has been polishing their garden tiles a bit too much. I'd like to see the original pic, 6/10.

I wonder why gfx-artists release gfx, musicians music and coders some nice effects individually? Lets hope that a coder, gfx-artist and musician will bump into eachother some time ;). On the other hand: yes. thats a 10 ;)

Pretty unusual release by Leon this time!
-I suppose the choice of subject was a pleasant and surprising novelty with most people, as it was with me.

I really enjoy the picture, but things could always be better -- the only fault I find with this picture is the plants not quite blending in with the ambient gradient in the background, or connect with the hi-detail textured center, either. They should have been preferrably pixelled smoother and a bit diffused or -- less preferred, but still better than the current implementation -- with a comparable level of texture detail to the center of the composition.
-Dear c64 graphicians, what do you think about it?

(I am not a graphician myself, but having worked in a CGI studio for more than a decade with really talented creative folks made an impact on my sense of aesthetics and set my expectations high)

In england, "take me home", implies some serious action between the sheets...not a taxi service for lazy snails! ;)

Great pic!

It's a real pity that the SceneCon orgas called off the C64 graphics compo, I was looking forward to beat your ass with my new pic on that party ;D
Anyhow, I really love the cute mood of this picture, and the title is ingenious. Kudos!

Hope to see you this weekend my friend, I'd really like to have a long, cozy chat with you beside a couple of cold beers. \:D/
