I reckon you are addressing me, Str0rmfront? If so, I knew that it was some classic illustration all along, but I just stumbled on it looking at some JC Leyendecker stuff, so I added the Production Notes.

Did you know or did you just realize this was the basis for the gfx?

Nice pic of Steve Martin :) Ms. Pacman background is also cool.

Awesome Image, this is an amazing artform.

Now can you make another classic game? Like Q-Bert or something? and instead of the Cowboy, have an 80's type of Character with the typical 80's Sunglasses?? Like the ones worn in Ferris Bueller's Day Off??

Wow! This is bloody fantastic. Fresh and oldskool all in one - Awesome!! I think Bizzmo's point maybe right! ;)

Yeah awesome! The composition and style reminds me of Robt. Williams, the theme is bizarre. :D

This pic brings to mind the cowboy getting into a tight spot playing MS, his expression is both amusement and exasperation by getting ghosted, I suppose. The death and 1up suggest that he's having another game, just like every poor sucker with a coin who walks past MS.

I just noticed that the maze is from PACMAN. :D

gray corner sucks a bit, the rest is briliant!

Very nice, although the upper gray area is a bit cheap.

Yes workstages are always nice, however in this case I'd be more impressed with an algorithm that managed to do this! :D
User Comment
Submitted by Archmage on 24 September 2007
Stages would be nice. I'd like to have it confirmed that this was actually made by a human being. ;)

@Groepaz: Ok, you really had me check the code and zoom into the pic, so now it's my turn to speak. Stop puffin' for once will you? ;) There are only 3 colors on the bug-area: black, blue and light gray. You don't need to be a wizzard to do that without sprites, and you definitely don't need the *ultra-unrolled-fli-loop* that is used. You just need *enable-PAL-emulation* and ka-baff!!, 1000s of colors :).

Submitted by Oswald on 23 September 2007
doesnt needs a spritelayer, on the leftmost 3 charcolumns does only use $f(fli bug),$0 (backgr?) and $6 ($d800). the pal filter is pretty agressive which adds more colors than vice. the vertical color mixing is heavily and cleverly used.

Cool, good composition and I really like the color choices.

Can we see some work stages? Would love to see how you pulled this together.

I suggest all "graphicians" retire with immediate effect and that Mirage must now, single handedly produce ALL graphics... no pressure...

I second Deekay here.. This is probably one of the best pictures technically. Ever. Actually, Mirage is defining new standards lately, and i wonder if he'll ever be equalled.
Face it.. none is even close to this.

Last time i pay my respect Lars.. i keep on repeating myself! ;)

Why all this fuzz about sprite-layer btw. Can't see no god damn sprite-layer..

the best effects are those you don't see.... (look at the dimensions of the picture and draw your own conclusions :=P)

Holy shit! I'll have to check it on the real machine first (and zoom in a bit! ;-), but this might well be among the best, if not the best c64 gfx I've ever seen, seriously! Where do I vote 12? 8)

Great stuff! I wonder if you will release a reworked version of the famous Bubble Bobble game.
With that having been said, I wish this is not just another purple bubble (actually not the one that Eve chews on)
that easily cracks the same way the WHITE PILLS are swiftly swallowed by Dr.Phil after having cured all the ill and the future-orineted dead ones. Poop. ;D

The strength of this picture is not the cowboy guy at the right but the juxtaposition of picture elements, i.e. adding it with the computerscreen dump-like thing and also the little background blur to the right.

The picture goes nicely with the theme in The Wild Bunch and the western music Hein created for his The Good, the Bad and the Ugly seen last year aswell as for the recent things you have made.

But seriously. The ghosts are closing in and the cowboy looks a little too secure (or is he using the few connections left in his head to come to a conclusion? Sort out a problem? ) :P

@Hein: Yes, it's called a screenDUMP... 16 beautiful colours of POOP... Ms packman is also pooping 16 different colours, since she seems to be surrounded by 4 dead cowboys

Excellent pixel (or whatever you call it in Timanthes ;-) job, Lars!

Another piece of genius pixelling. If I'm being a prick (which I always am) I'd have preferred some futuristic type dude in the composition instead of a 50s style cowboy. However I'll console myself with the possibility it's a space cowboy.

amazing work again. i wonder how you could ever come up with quality stuff like that.
pics like that would have easily turned you into a rich man by the time it was still possible to make money on the c64. =)
