I agree with you PAL and I liked the white screen in the middle of the hot summer. It feels right somehow. What I lacked was a bit of speed to that scroller.

Thanks for your positive comments Saehn. Some executables I make work on both (like my 1st intro...and my Navarone intro to name two) and some I don't bother...especially when I'm in a hurry, like a birthday dedicated release which is already late. PAL releases run fine on my PAL c64 too :)

Eh, the PAL sceners make PAL releases because that is what runs on their actual machines. When they take their demos/intros/etc to meets, they share them with their friends, in person. That's what most NTSC sceners do, too. However, due to the abundance of active PAL sceners, I almost always make sure that my executable pictures run in both NTSC/PAL. My group /tries/ to do the same with demos, but of course that's a little more complicated. So, DP, whatever format works for you is great... but I don't think it matters much to our PAL friends if they need to use VICE to view our occasional NTSC releases. Anyway: the intro looks really good, about to download it.

Lets see, the arguably greatest c64 cracking group in the world - Onslaught, often releases PAL only intros. You say the soil I stand on does not dictate what video mode my releases should be compatible with. I agree. With your reasoning and contradictory statements we've come back to my original point. In a world where no one pigeon holes people as "NTSC" or "PAL" coders, then my releasing a PAL product shouldn't have upset you guys so. Of course the spirit of tbolt's original statement claimed (as you reiterated) that I would appear to people who loaded this as an NTSC demo to be someone who didn't bother to push flicker into the hblank (much like Wanderer often neglected to do in his '88 releases. Anyone who knows my releases has seen that I was able to do raster splits in the 2nd part of Hallowfoe in a stable IRQ, so that's a non issue.

You and tbolt both used the phrase "US group" twice in your posts. Your point about believing in a world community, to me, seems to be stuck in quite a rhetorical quagmire, plus you resort to such evidence loaded statements as "pure bull". Lets arrive at a consensus. If my release is offensive to you and you don't like it, fine. But I engaged in no attack on your person (nor tbolts) at any time. Let just have fun.

@The Phantom: Your comment about "activity every single day back in 19XX" is interesting, considering we have that here in my groups. I can honestly say we have new updates with graphics, code, and design ideas daily on our private forum. We post public updates on forums and irc channels with graphics previews, code ideas, etc. and receive some great feedback from sceners and non-sceners.

I think the point Wayne was making is a US group releasing supposed "PAL only" releases sometime in the future will simply be viewed as a US group that can't code properly because of the flickering. I didn't actually see him make some claim that you need to fix your releases, don't get excited.

Also, this claim that you guys tried to create some solidarity ... pure bull. I know the places NTSC guys hang out and I've seen neither of you posting or conversing with anyone to drum up excitement. This idea that there is no NTSC activity doesn't play out when you look at the amount of releases on the books for the past two years.

Lastly, this entire viewpoint of NTSC or PAL scene is so tired. It's like 1990 all over again ... forget about it, that time is never going to return. My groups have put out a lot of releases in the past two years and we'll certainly continue in the near future ... not once have I thought about NTSC vs. PAL during that time period because that is such an antique viewpoint. For us it's about releasing for a machine we love to work with, I hope you have the same feelings.

No prob. Eric...

I don't have hate for any groups, American or otherwise, I just want to be where the action is, and hang around the people who are exited about coding and pixeling...whether its on the 64, Amiga, or one of the consoles. And that's what I'm going to do. There may be a few routines I release as NTSC (or both) just for the challenge, but I exist under no delusion that I labor under the obligation to release to any one video standard. I have both sets of hardware in my lab, to use any way I feel like.

Oustanding..

Just when you think your birthday is over, someone gives a present like this. DPL, out of all my years doing this c64 demo coding "thang", you're the only one that's done stuff like this for me. Funny feeling you get when you sit back and watch something made for you, in the world you love so much.

I too have tried getting these NTSC demo groups active, I think trying to give CPR to an ant would have had better chances.
I do understand people have lives outside this machine, but what I find hard to believe is the ease to not be productive. This used to be a lot of fun, like the PAL scene. NTSC guys always talking and calling each other, demos coming from everywhere, activity each and every day, for years.
Whew.. Got carried away...
My point was, I think I will be coding PAL as well. I think I'm going to gather my last NTSC parts and then go PAL. Should be a FUN venture.. FOE going PAL.. Never thought I'd see the day..

@tbolt: That's amusing, because last year when I made a birthday prod for the same dude, you thought my tech-tech was flickering because you were running it on PAL mode by mistake. I'm under no obligation to fix unless I want to. Also, most of my friends and affiliates live in Europe. I'm lucky to be smart enough to have an international perspective, unlike most Americans. For a while I tried to get activity (and some kind of solidarity) going in NTSC, but I realize that was an exercise in futility.

@Moloch: I really didn't give much of a thought to an "official" name for this intro...I suppose what I have up there is more of a description than an actual name. I'd be happy to change it to match the file name if that would better support the archival process.

This is PAL only release...I'd say probably one of many to come. No reason to ask why, since the real question would be why wouldn't it be?

The incredible font (as I state in the scrolltext) was created by Legend on the Amiga and repixeled by myself on the c64.

One other footnote: If you look at the last birthday release I made for The Phantom for last year...there is a comment by Bordeaux which turned into a bit of an inside joke for this release. Enjoy....or not. Maktone 0wns.
