Missed this demo altogether and in particular the tribute to Mogwai who was a personal friend of mine back then, I went to school with his sister.

I even remember that old demo part...

Thanks guys!

I always had a soft spot for 'The Matrix' trilogy. Wish they would make another one. I really enjoyed the demo very much but I wish it was longer and double sided.

I hope you guys will expand this demo still, I want more of it!

A cool Censor release, also just a few months after X, impressing ! :)
Great music by Magnar and its good to see Lavazza coding cool stuff !
And then its Bob lurking behind the vic ;) We did have a talk at DS about those effects, hehe.

The Mogwai part with the great old tune from Future freak, made me kinda sad for a little moment... thinking about it, the old days life/death.
But it was a good thing to do. :)

It was very nice to meet you again Lavazza, Bob and Magnar!
Looking forward to see more Censor releases in the near future!

I know I didn't find it straight away, so here we go with a shortcut.

If anyone wants to see the production notes Bob put together, follow this link: http://csdb.dk/release/?id=115684&show=notes#notes

I agree the plasma actually looked good for a 8x8 version :).

I must ask, What happened to Mogwai?
Deceased on 31th of January.

Oh, THAT! ;-) Yeah, that's rather wellknown, we used it f.ex. to make the right siderborder gfx in the endpart of Risen from Oblivion more colorful! But - didn't this stretch into the left sideborder??? Which is not the case with Bob's part!...

@Bob: So nice to meet you man! And congratz on the #3 place.

The reason you havn't seen this effect so much is because you usually avoid it. The color rows in the sideborder gets misaligned one line in the left border anyways.

The VIC will display whatever background color that was defined in the 39th column in the whole side border. Usually this is $d021 but with ECM-mode it will be the bgcolor set by the upper 2 bits of the character via $d02x. For hires bitmap it will be the bgcolor of the char, i.e. the color of the 0-bits in the bitmap data, or the low nybble of the screen colors.

Btw... check out the AFLI part in Time Machine for the exact same effect. I.e. the AFLI-pattern extend into the side border for the very same reason. The Time Machine intro picture has the same effect but we decided to make the last colum's bgcolor be black for consistency. Try change it (Vice monitor: > 5c27 b3) when the sprites are visible and the side border is open.

True True DeeKay, we are glad that we managed to release something at all ;)

HCL = is a multiple purpose message ;)
1. Horizontal Line Chars. well I haven't seen char colors setting one side border in any demo, I might be wrong here but, I came a cross this phenomenon while coding the allborder stuff. When I did some extra d016 trickery (tech tech ish) got garbage in the data and woallah, Mirage pointed out that there was something similar but not like this. Now HCL tells the same, propably half of the scene has done it all of a sudden ;) to baad... they didn't make it obvious what the hell it was ;) I still think it is unique ;) hehehehe but thats me..

2. Hello to an long time no C friend that I finally got to meet with since the 90's and have a good portion of beers with, we had some mailing back and forth during our absence... HCL kept my curriousity going.. :)

3. Matrix consist more of vertical line chars, so Lavazza added also horizontal messages.

Pick one ;)

it got cozy at the end.

If you would like to contribute to our gfx issue you are more then welcome ;)

missed you at DS.

LOL! Never thought I'd ever hear David say the very words "the HCL-effect is nothing new really"! ;-D

Nice demo. Feels a bit rushed, with some non-treated converted gfx in parts and "gaps" in the music, but then again that's totally understandable because you released a big demo on X a few months earlier, and Offence are just superhuman, they don't count! ;-D

So what's the point with these horizontal character lines?
Loved the endpic (trinity was also good), please make gfx this good throughout the whole demo next time! ;-D

Some nice effects in here, but the HCL-effect is nothing new really. It was used 20 years ago, for example in Totally Stoned 2 by me, but i did not invent it. Keep it up d0dez, and nice having a beer with you at the party!

[edit] ..and of course i HATE being #4 after you guys, it's f**king unbelievable :E but i woun't say a word about it. :)

The Matrix character effect is really cool. Well done turning Lavazza on to the scene, Bob! It's also amazing that new ways to exploit the hardware can still be found in 2013.

Hm. Haven't I seen a borderless matrix scroll before? Whatever: a really well designed production. Was a real pleasure to watch.

For sure one of the better MATRIX effects in a demo (bye bye sideborder) - and I like the upgrade Trinity :-)
