Using AY envelope techniques on SID? Count me in!

I love SID explorations. What also comes to my mind is that you can achieve similar results with setting filter mask on/off at proper frequency (delay), or even by using filter sweep to semi-emulate 5th voice pitch simultaneously.

Hi Groepaz! No, it's using gate on/off at variable PH2 intervals to produce note pitches. By setting ADSR to 00x0 gate on/off intervals will produce voltage peaks and a waveform (pulse). This can be used stand-alone to produce notes, or be combined with oscillators, to add another pulse frequency to the one created by the oscillator. This then gives the impression of two notes on one channel. See f.e. the Summary page.

Is this basically the same idea as playing chords with testbit/oscillator restarting?

Thank you for the nice comments. :)

Here's a recording on a real C64 with 6581 as well. :)

This is my first demonstration of using PULSE FX in music in my quest to bring new sounds to the SID.

By setting ADSR to 00F0 for starters, one can use gate on/off in the correct note frequency to create audible notes, without the need for any other setting.
But, this can be combined with "normal" sounds as well, adding another frequency (gate on/off) to an already existing note playing, for example.
So I explored some more possibilties as I went composing this way. The PULSE-DRIVER 6581 (since this is best served on a 6581) takes special effects hidden in wave forms to operate.
I composed this in Goattracker for instance. Check the summary for a bit more detail.
