As(s) you may understand I see your version of Space Shuttle as the firstie. Well.. I think we are quite off topic now. Love and respect!

We decided to release Space Shuttle since we wanted to do a proper version of this game. It is totally unplayable without the docs (well, it still is *with* docs... but what the heck). We thought our version was the first, but if the entry you're referring to was the first "crack", I leave up to somebody else to judge. The game deserved a good packaging and I think we delivered that.

Regarding ASS (what a name!) =) ... I guess it's hard to draw any general guidelines, it depends on the case. But if I see an ASS disk header I know someone's been there. But if no serious modifications has beeen made - and it's a decent game - and we have the original - and we can do something with it (trainer, bugfixing, onefiling or docs) then we might consider it. But we don't do it just because nobody didn't add an intro before.

Bepp: Sorry, but I don't quite follow you. Your group just released Space Shuttle +D, which there is a "crack" or whatever you wanna call it, existing on CSDb since 2005 ( Space Shuttle ). Do you mean that if the disk header would have been "ASS", you would have made an exception and not touch it? Why is an "ASS-crack" (!) (or ASS release (!!) if you want), without tag or intro an exception?

Regarding "worthy stuff" I want to quote a good old friend of mine: "While working on the 'worthy stuff', we like to release good 'simpler' games every now and then - if not for anything better than just to satisfy the intro collectors (!) =) If there are things to be done to a game, then why not do it?"

Just my two cents regarding Desperado/ASS. I can only speak for the Loadstar cases, where he has basically picked the original files from the LS disk and made a clean D64, rebranded it as Desperado. That's not a crack. And it shouldn't be considered a "scene release". Then again, many Loadstar games are crap and may not deserve more attention than that.

BUT in cases where he has modified the original, onefiled it or "cracked" the loader or something then we won't touch it. Even if there is no intro (which he never has?)

Just slapping an intro does not make it more a valid scene release than a modified version without intro...

And I do agree with CZ that there are "enough worthy old stuff out there". We are working on it =) Only making nice releases of those takes a lot of time and effort (I'm sure you know this)...

Fake release scene! You made my day, CZ. Wish you could take the time to comment more on our releases, but i guess you have more valuable things to do in life.

2flower: If I follow your logic and the availability of a game in the wild, without tag or intro, should be seen as valid scene releases a lot of groups, including your own, have some cleaning to do.

When it comes to the "no-cracker-tag" thingies:

I do believe the The Desperado / ASS releases should be concidered valid. There cam be no doubt that the games have been crunched and "cracked" with the intention of making it readily available for a new (scene- or retro-)public. 0 points from me atleast.

Many points for the intro, though. Otherwise I kind of second Count Zeros opinions.

Woho - NO re-release as there is indeed a few bytes difference but imho you'd receive more fame by just adding the GB entry here.

I don't quite get why spending any minute on this "oldschool" crap thrills anyone. There is enough worthy old stuff out there and of course there are some nice jewel and special versions being prepared.

I'd also wish GP, Laxity and other recent entrepeneurs to the fake release scene would mark their releases a bit more special so worthwhile time can be spend on real stuff.

Don't doubt you did it from the original.

Even this one is no first release as proved by Fierman. The
GB64 Version doesn't feature an intro but in 1983 nearly no
cracker used an intro. That just became usual around 1986.

The version on GB is definitely not from 1983 since it's PU-crunched, and since it has neither intro or any cracker-tag it shouldn't be considered a scene release. If you compare the binaries you'll also notice that it differs quite a lot from this version which was cracked from the original disk.
Now enjoy this release, stop moaning and start digging for supplies outside of CSDb. ;)
