I'm thinking about RAGEQUITTING the demoscene. That nefarious insult comes just right before I started wondering if I should be starting coding my first release. | User Comment Submitted by Xenox on 23 December 2013 User Comment Submitted by Rastah Bar on 21 December 2013
Hi, after watching several very nice C64 line drawing demo's, I tried to write my own fast line drawing and rotation routines, just to get a better appreciation of the demo's. I put a short clip on youtube:
watch?v=sLeNHAuSK54
What do you guys think of it? Don't be too harsh, this is only the second small C64 demo I ever made :-)
Plotting and rotating are done in real time, only the C64 CPU is used, all points are rotated (I don't make use of object symmetry), rotations are calculated with 24 bits accuracy.
Btw, my first ever little C64 demo is here: watch?v=GaruUTQnahY | User Comment Submitted by Dr.j on 19 December 2013
and if we are speaking about fast moving vectors , is this demo was the first to show fast line vectors?
Vector-Victory
it was coded by Nir p. a group mate of The Force | User Comment Submitted by Graham on 19 December 2013
Yup The Masque had a special line routine for horizontal orientated lines. But I didn't invent it. I think I had seen that line routine in the line vector part of Kalle Kloakk/MSI. | User Comment Submitted by Oswald on 19 December 2013
just a fast peek, probably you are right then :) | User Comment Submitted by HCL on 19 December 2013
@Oswald: Have you really checked? At ~$4400 there is a line routine optimized for flat lines, where more than one bit can be set for each byte.. Not sure it is used though ;). | User Comment Submitted by Oswald on 19 December 2013
@HCL: there's nothing special in the Masque line routine, standard c64 style bresenham. | User Comment Submitted by Bitbreaker on 19 December 2013
@hcl: actually i have no idea if it is faster than the one used in the masque. I have not looked at any code for inspiration but just wrote linecode for a 16x16 chargrid from scratch to see what is possible. This example runs with 27fps when x/y movements are on, or 28fps when having a static position on the screen. Maybe that helps to compare? Also, this is not the maximum that can be achieved, i have some more ideas of to save cycles, but not yet implemented. | User Comment Submitted by Dr.j on 19 December 2013
Very nice and decent release for Xmas . great gfx by Death | User Comment Submitted by HCL on 19 December 2013
The line loop looks inspired of Graham's very fast line from The Masque. Likely this one is faster then, but should be confirmed by the author of course :).
Too much santa and too few lines in this one for my taste, but everything is very nice :). | User Comment Submitted by Yogibear on 18 December 2013
Great one filer! And I do like the SID even as it is old! | User Comment Submitted by Dr.Science on 18 December 2013
Wow, that lines are really fast! The first logo is also damn nice, very x-mas style. And that Santa looks just the way I always imagined him :-) | User Comment Submitted by Oswald on 18 December 2013
I mean, this is the fastest hires line routine ever (comment editing disabled, booo :) | User Comment Submitted by Oswald on 18 December 2013
thats a crazy line routine in there, no idea what it does, but its very fast :) | User Comment Submitted by Beastifire on 18 December 2013
Hidden line vector christmas present ftw! | User Comment Submitted by jailbird on 18 December 2013
Great stuff, put a smile on my face :) | User Comment Submitted by Bitbreaker on 18 December 2013
The musicians did not perform (as expected), so we had to use old shit :-) | User Comment Submitted by Shine on 18 December 2013
Really NICE! ... but i don't like the music, not my cup of tea. Death is a Master of GFX! :) |
