No!.. People, think!
There were minor complaints and suggestions to JSL to release less and spent more time on his work. But that is not what the frustration is about anymore:
JSL claims he deserves higher votes and compares himself to Leon and Jailbird.
Personally I think I am better then Hubbard and Jeroen combined in making sids. I plan to release 1268 worktunes. Some just contain 1 testchord. But it's my art. Also it will autoplay on csdb! |

Nice picture. JSL, I'm sorry to hear what you have been through, but I must stress that you need to start listening to other people instead of keep whining about personal life, news about wars, etc. and the comments CSDB members give out. It can be constructive criticizsm.
You should try and learn new skills, rather than be trapped in a world of pixelling. Why not have a go at composing music or something like this. |

I've learned to know you pretty well the last few years and know that you have had many setbacks.
We have divided both negative and positive things for a few years and I know how much your paintings on the C64 means to you!
To stop drawing only hurt you and for what?
Do not think that everyone is against you!!!
There is nobody on CSDB who do not know JSL is. What do I mean by that?
If your desire was to become known in the the C64 scene then you have succeeded very well!
No one evokes so much emotion as you do and that is both good and bad.
Many of the dodgy answers is because you react emotionally and writes some less well-chosen words that start up a negative trend.
That someone did not like a picture does not mean they hate you!
You need to distinguish between criticism of your pictures and do not take it personally!
We have spoken at many times and I try to give you good advice which I also find difficult to live up to sometimes then I'm feeling down.
How hopeless it may seem, there will be a tomorrow that we can influence a lot ourselves!
Wake up in the morning and think "damn, yet another crap day".
How do you think the day will be?
Try to turn it around and think "Finally a new day that I can do to one of my best'! |

There are some constants in life: people suck, and everyone's life sucks in some way. That's just a given. And mental illness is a thing. I work with people with mental illness and it can be scary, and it can be weird, and it can go all over the place.
I understand using a hobby to help with that sort of thing. Some people draw, some write, some people paint. Some of those people suck at what they do but, you know, whatever. You ever see Michelangelo paint boobs? The guy was awful. None of that is relevant, though. You like to draw? Then draw. Who cares what someone's going to say on a database of scene releases.
What is relevant is what you do with what you do. If you draw because it's an outlet for frustration or whatever, then great, keep on keeping on... but using the C64 scene and, in particular, the CSDb for validation or as a substitute for therapy is probably the worst thing that anybody could ever do in the history of the world. Remember... people suck in general, and when you filter down humanity into the dysfunctional, inbred, Kallikak-esque disaster that is the Commodore 64 scene... well, looking for validation here is about as effective as pissing up a rope.
So keep drawing, do what you've gotta do, and ignore everyone else because the only person who has a valid opinion of your work is you.

I suffer from several conditions including immunoglobulin-deficiency forcing me to use a syringe pump on my belly twice a week injecting 20ml; thyroid auto-immune disease, diabetes type 2 and a muscular disease not yet identified. I'm constantly tired and have chronical abdominal pain since I was 7.
You see, you're not the only one with problems. I read about others here with diabetes, or even skin cancer. The last thing you should do is indulge yourself in self-pity. You need to act and do something about it. Doctors don't tell you what to do to torment you. First thing you should do is stop the snacking as that is really bad for a diabetic patient. Yes your condition is hard, but you should do what you can about it. Blaming others won't help you. It's your body, and only you can help yourself. |

| Hey JSL, I don't know you, but I have one "emergency hint" concerning your health problems. Don't make yourself dependent on other people. Accept that you are cause and solution. You know what is good for you. Do that. Stop everything that is not good for you (like eating crap, not working out, etc.). Every good new habit starts with the first steps - overcome the magic first three weeks and you're on the way to become someone else. Although you can't see them right now, always believe that the bright sides of life are gonna make up for all the other bullshit... ;) |

| There are more problems than mentioned I suffer misery with, and I live at MetGGZ (formerly Mensana RIBW) since 2003, play at their rules, take right the medication in, inject Insulin when eating, and with damaged feet, knees etc. it is painfull walking, I've tried but stopped, so I am not a man. The nervepain won't be healed because my feet almost are dead. Walking three hours and even bike around, isn't what I love, earlier because of weekly walking I lost 2kg in a month, did Fitness school, but 2-3kg loosing and gaining it back by inbetween snacks has no point. Point is a diet but that lets you eat 6x a day, but everyone says drop everything you eat, and stick to water only. And I am not a fool that Pixeling is more importanter than my health, I just pixel only 1 day in the week. I restarted walking last year, but then the nervepain came and the damaged feet, the knees where before because of heavy walking. So I must seek a Psychiatrist, I have one, but there aren't problems, so I must seek Mental help, for all the wrong diagnoses people do.. Besides my parents, noone knows what people did to me in the past and last years, and putting personal diary onhere, heaps of stuff is way to personal to put up here, but talking about Diabetes2 I did earlier in scrollers. Talking about suicide, when there is no intrest anymore in gaming, don't watch tv for 10 years, stopped with movies, burnout with drawing, and only pixeling left.. I guess that word is Depression, but still I like to sketch out for future pixelworks, google around, and support C64 scene in my groups, that despite my shitty life, I still have something I like. But Okay, now CSDb is not a place for me, I must leave.. What then.. |

I've lost all respect for you and your work JSL.
In order to keep my skin cancer in check, I have to avoid silly things, like SUN EXPOSURE on my skin. Makes it hard to go camping, or fishing or even work, but I manage it. All the things I love to do involve being in the SUN. I guess you have it worse though, eh?

See, self-awareness could be "your" first step into a better life but please get (urgent) professional mental help. Don't believe that CSDB is the right place for such things and discussions.
Dear, please believe me (and listen!) pixeling and gaming won't make you rich, neither fame and for sure NOT healthy. Just let me tell you some wise words (are you still listening? I guess not, you're still mind-looping with CSDB and pixeling and other important things, right!?)...
- Every man is the architect of his own fortune
- Don't shift the blame on others all the time
- Don't believe in others (at least not that much) but on yourself
- Pixel for profit or just for fun (not for therapy and attention)
- Put the same amount of time for pixeling, gaming and CSDB stuff into sports and restoring your health.

I have type 1 diabetes, and I have been fighting with its effects on my daily life for the past eight years.
With that said, here is a list of "simple" rules to have a better management for your diabetes, JSL (though it is very likely that you will ignore the following altogether):
1) Eat smaller portions (you seem to have type 2, therefore you have to lose weight).
2) Exercise (not only walk), and try sitting less in front of computer (i.e. C64).
3) Get proper sleep (and to improve on that, stop staring at screen at least 1-2 hours before you go to sleep).
If you reach your ideal weight, make exercising a part of your daily routine, and have a less sedentary life, you should have less problems in managing it, including your (likely-) neuropathic pain. The people around you are not speaking about the same things for nothing; these are indeed the points that you should pay attention to. But of course, you first have to believe it. |

| LEON: Problems in the way of pixeling, when I master them all, I am 30 years further, Grandpa JSL at 70, probably no more C64 scene left.. ;) besides, I never heard of pixeling schools here in The Netherlands, Drawing and Painting Okay, which I did before.. But when it comes to pixeling, I think to learn it yourself from the start, and if there is something it will be PC because people I meet, talking about C64 pixeling, laughout loud, that it is an retard computer no one uses anymore. I know that the ones on my Facebook would know where to start pixeling, because I saw many are in Game Development on Playstation or PC platform, like said Pixellessons, only for PC not C64. Used to work with Deluxepaint5AGA, was fun, even emailed Guerrila in Netherlands (Killzone) how to become a pixelartist for games.. But in the end, JSL Sucks at C64 and I used to Draw and Paint since 1988, never improved on C64 it seems.. |

Before any one of you comment on the shit below, I know it's personal, and nothing to share with CSDb, and even thought post it YES or a NO.. But on the comments of getting grip on my life and forget about C64 isn't possible..
I had many dislikes in my life, of what happened. And pixeling is everything for me that remained, and other stuff stopped. Every person attacking me, health organisations, my family, friends, and the diabetic nurse.. With go walking, at least 3 hours a day, I won't do, I can't do that. I used to walk 4x in the week one-half-hour but in the end everything on Sugar was "bad" that I stopped, had the
feeling everything was for nothing. Everyone wants me to walk, with the painfull feet, broken painfull knees, and pain/strained muscle.. Not to mention the pain in my back.
Then with the Diabetic-Nurse's decision after 15 years the same meds, lowering it down in heaps, and three months later dyhydration and hypers and immediate takeup in Hospital because each moment I could die and fall to the floor, result was on Insulin Injections, didn't make me happy, and everyone saying Don't blame the nurse.
But, did she kept the steady dosage, this never would happened..
I walk around with screams, but no one understands of the pain and it is good to walk 3 hours a day they say, everyone pushing me, even that aside go bike around. I hate the shit, and the lies of everyone that first my feet hurting, damaged, and meet the
podotherapist, and they say nothing wrong with the feet, while the pedicurist said make an appointment there, all because of the arch support I got, and know what.. I paid three times 300 euros for them, and my feet hurt with walking, and right before
this all it wasn't planned to get this shit in my shoes because my doctor choose a injection for the fluid-accumulation which I got with sports, but podotherapist choose for arch support, as wrong diagnosis.. Fluid-accumulation way on the top of
the heel, nothing wrong with the feet..
So since 2009 I am walking with pain, and last year I went berserk at them, and said FUCK OFF and since then I ain't use them anymore, angry people now angry parents.. Even the diagnosis for my strained muscle, now lasts a year, and painfull knees was
"go walking, it's the diabetes, if you walk each day, it will be gone!" .. It doesn't make sense, that it will be worser I think, and everyone against me. In fact, it is GO WALK/MOVE, or DIE, and I choose for death, don't care anymore about my life..
As for the Disrespect, true.. Jailbird helped me before, but since the last thing written that he compared me or my texts with John Wayne Gacy, serial killer and child rapist, and Leon following JB.. ahh well.. And people saying it's best for me to leave the scene, not saying names...... At some point, pixeling is everything for me that remained, I spoke once the word to people "when my hardware dies, and I only lived for C64, and the rest of the hobby's went away/like the drawing I gave up, I commit suicide", and
since last year the hardware is troubling.. And the troubles I have and coming changes, don't cheer me up at all. Maybe in the end, people will make a Tribute demo, the Death of JSL, but I guess even that will get Downvotes, when I look at it from Heaven, or Hell.. |

Pixelling for fame is sooo 1980s....
What remains is pixelling for fun, so be proud of the staggering amount of products you have released.
For example, although my son enjoys soccer very much he will never be as talented as Messi. Very few people are gifted with talent, perseverence and having the patience to spend countless hours on a picture.
Please do not rate yourself against them as that is not a fair comparison. Besides most of them are professionals in graphic design and their skills also progressed by training and having learned from the best.
We all have to find our place in life and I envy you for the amount of effort you invest in keeping my hobby interesting. |

Whatever: Quitting has never been an proper option, except maybe when you have -definitely- other things to do (e.g. regulate all your personal issues).

Dedicated to everyone who dislikes me. Due the fact I must pixel heaps weeks
on a picture, and I deliver crap since heaps of years, alltough some do like
my works. When a picture or Multiscreener is finished then it is finished, and when Mirage says on "Exile" that it's rushed, I have my own style, and like "Simplicity" on some stuff, that others do say fill "everything" just to get a cooler look. This picture was made in 2014, mostly because of the Downvoters
and those against me.
I am fedup of pixeling, also because of a faulthy C64, and reallife troubles
me much that at some point I thought about suicide too often, I was almost
gone with an overdose of meds, but actually no one knows in scene, immediate intake hospital and flushed out and kept alive.. I still hate my life much, pixeling is everything for me but that is less since last year, and the positive thing is that I picked up gaming on the 360, and did bought an XboxONE.. Maybe a bad Console, but lost intrest in Playstation.. No massive gaming like 8 years before. Still life is a shit, what happened and it will become worser this year, when they drop me out of the house, in July. JSL going mayhem against the law.. Life ends..
I know that this picture is offensive against you all, and many of you wrote not to overreact on the jokes, downvotes.. and as many said "keep pixeling JSL what you love most!" like said Dedication to the Downvoters and those who dislike me.
Life is getting worser anytime, feeling depressive, and the jokes on my releases doesn't appeal me much in this bad time.. What to expect, like Jailbird says that all my graphics doesn't show progress, and become tedious, spamfull and below mediocre every upload, and this is a cruel and mean database where it's about
rivalry and beat the best, alltough someone said "there is a place for everyone here, even JSL".. I am thinking about, JB said no no one wants you to leave scene, but when
my graphics are bad, and are in the same level of 1993, why continue?
Exile visited me last weekend, and we spoke long about C64.. Even if I would pixel a week, or longer on a picture, and add THAT extra bit to it, anyone of you guys would still downvote it and say it is crap, even would laugh loud when I say duration was a week of two.. Like Exile said, spend a 2-3 weeks on a picture, people here still would go bad with the result, because I have my own style, and most of the time the picture does look good, that nothing extra can be added. In many eyes, untrue, but well.. "why continue..?"
Picture gives Drama, or Deletion.. No Scene Release I guess.. Flame war..
Or in other words, don't comment and vote a 1, and continue C64 gaming.. ;) |
