Superb release with alot of improvements compared to the normal version! | User Comment Submitted by Tom-Cat on 15 July 2015
I would just like to thank everybody for the wonderful comments. This is what makes it all worth it. In the end it really all came together better than we thought it will, the new level design, the new graphics, all new gameplay features and in the end the stunning tunes. | User Comment Submitted by Jak T Rip on 12 July 2015
Never thought I'd be hooked by GnG... this is so brilliant (I love the game map!!) and just presses you to give it another try... Wonderful release, guys! | User Comment Submitted by Axess on 10 July 2015
Can't stop playing it, pure greatness, love you guys!!
PS: how about Ghouls'n Ghosts Arcade now ;) | User Comment Submitted by daison on 7 July 2015 User Comment Submitted by Exploding First on 28 June 2015
Excellent work, Nostalgia.
Now this version really fits to the C64 its hardware possibilities. | User Comment Submitted by Mr. Sex on 28 June 2015
Forgot to say that the music is most likely the best ever in any c64 game. Feels a bit like Tim Follin's Ghoul's and ghosts... | User Comment Submitted by Mr. Sex on 28 June 2015
Epic remake. Having completed the original in arcade I didn't remember it being so tough. Either me or memory is too old ;-) | User Comment Submitted by fenz on 27 June 2015
love it. this is quite an accompishment! well done. | User Comment Submitted by Richard on 26 June 2015
I just had to change my vote from 9\10 to 10/10. I liked the original Elite GnG (own it on tape), but I LOVE this game even more. Nice graphics. Great music, excellent remake. Well done to everybody involved. | User Comment Submitted by MWR on 25 June 2015
OMFG... This is pure awesomeness! Thanks to everyone involved for making the wet dream of my childhood come true. My favorite C64 game just got even better. | User Comment Submitted by Shine on 25 June 2015
2.7k downloads!!! :) C64 is still alive. ;) | User Comment Submitted by Mr. SID on 25 June 2015
@STE: yeah, the non-CSDb crowd downloading the game. Just like PoP, the ratio there is funny too. | User Comment Submitted by Truss on 25 June 2015 User Comment Submitted by Creeper on 24 June 2015
Amazing work! This is pure love. | User Comment Submitted by STE'86 on 24 June 2015
ha! just noticed the proportion of downloads to votes! | User Comment Submitted by Mr. SID on 24 June 2015
This is very inspiring! Tomaz et al, keep up the great work! | User Comment Submitted by encore on 24 June 2015
Amazing release, this is C64 gaming of 2015. We're spoilt with releases like this and Bruce Lee II, and I love it! Thank you for all the hard work! | User Comment Submitted by Fungus on 24 June 2015
Nice to see it finally released, Now to play it!
GG Team | User Comment Submitted by Burglar on 23 June 2015
So yea, now the soundtrack, its so good, it should get a separate release sometime. The last leveltune is really really really awesome, incredible remix of the original arcade tune.
also every other tune is great.
yep this release got it all | User Comment Submitted by Count Zero on 23 June 2015
Added the box art and disk cover to this awesome and amazing release. | User Comment Submitted by Sixteen Plus on 23 June 2015
Normally I would rather remakes be of games which were terrible on the C64 (Double-Dragon, but now I understand why you chose to remake this one. It is so much better than the original release, and a lot better than Commando Arcade which is saying a lot. This is everything what G'n'G should be.
A few continues would have been great though as like the coin-op it's naturally never been an easy game, but then it just gives me extra reason to play even more :)
My first 10/10 (I think) on such a perfect release. Now go buy yourselves a pint to show our appreciation. Well done guys :) | User Comment Submitted by Jammer on 23 June 2015
So much more playable than original port :) No more getting stuck at tombstones ;) | User Comment Submitted by BabyDuckGames on 22 June 2015
Hats off to you guys ! I held off little to let the dust settle, truly an epic release, probably one of the best in years ! If I could buy you a beer I would. Infact it would be many - muchos kudos !! | User Comment Submitted by Tom-Cat on 22 June 2015
Cooksey's tune (remade with a new replay routine) can only be heard in the attract mode. We left it in as a tribute really. It is a great tune, but we wanted really each level to have its own theme since the game is pretty long now and you play it for a while, so you don't get bored with the music. I think the tunes fit the levels perfectly. | User Comment Submitted by Yogibear on 22 June 2015 User Comment Submitted by Aki on 22 June 2015
It's cool! Big thanks.
Is there possible to hear the original Cooksey zak in-game? I think that wat it, why I played this game all the round again. Laxity's zaks are very cool, but.. I miss the Cooksey's one during the gameplay. .. or maybe it can be set but I passed it over? ... | User Comment Submitted by Tom-Cat on 22 June 2015
Just for clarity... forgot this in the nfo file:
IFFL_REU is the IFFL version (that means one big file) - it works on most commodore drives and some others (1541, 1581, etc.) it will fully load to REU if you have one.
FL_Universal is the FILES version. This version should work on any drive since it has Kernal fallback. You can copy it to IDE64/SD2IEC/uIEC/etc. drives.
_EF.crt is the EasyFlash cartridge version. You can flash it on the Easyflash/Easyflash3 cartridge or just insert it as cartridge in Winvice. | User Comment Submitted by PARALAX on 22 June 2015
Tolle Umsetzung, aber sauschwer zum Ende des Spiels! / Amazing conversion but very hard game. Lovely! | User Comment Submitted by Holy Moses on 21 June 2015
Absolutly a Hammer in any case!!! 10/10 is a must!!! The original was a real horror (sprite collision, bugs & more) but this work is absolutly great and made my dreams really come true!!! Thank you all, guys!!! PS.: It´s even working on my SD2IEC!!! 10++++++++++++++++++++ | User Comment Submitted by lemming on 21 June 2015
Drean contributions accepted. We'll make it work. :) | User Comment Submitted by Durandal on 21 June 2015
My only complain here would be that the disk based versions dont work on Drean 64s ;)
Still too hard for me, but at least now I can make it to the first boss before losing all my lifes. | User Comment Submitted by Frantic on 21 June 2015 User Comment Submitted by Matt on 21 June 2015

KUDOS to all of you in Nostalgia | User Comment Submitted by Tom-Cat on 21 June 2015
Thanx everyone :) Glad you like it.
ps. yep, the "Play Original Instead" is a fake option :) just having a bit of fun there... | User Comment Submitted by Rotteroy on 21 June 2015
<3 Nostalgia!!! Just played through the CRT version (with trainers ofcourse, the game was impossible back in the days, and still is). Looks great, sounds great. Im so impressed!!
PS: Since it is almost 30 years since i played this, I wanted to try the original version to compare. But when I choose "play original version instead", the trainer menu changes "yes" back to "no" when I start the game... Don't know if it is intentional or not, but fuck it, I can download the old version somewhere else. Anyway, Tomcat with crew: This is very impressive! | User Comment Submitted by Shine on 21 June 2015
One of my all time favorite games! Perfect job d(·)(·)des!!! <3 10/10
PS: It's a little bit harder game play, but this is good! | User Comment Submitted by iLKke on 21 June 2015

Excellent work. Staying true yet clearly enhanced in almost every way. Love it! | User Comment Submitted by Mr. Mouse on 20 June 2015
I understand your effort. Purist. But this is - imho - just that. Purist. Great work, little need. | User Comment Submitted by Oswald on 20 June 2015
couldnt enjoy it in its full glory, well maybe should have turned on some trainers. got my ass handed to me 3 times on level 1 then gave up. not the developers fault ofcourse. splendid job nevertheless. :) | User Comment Submitted by Ksubi on 20 June 2015 User Comment Submitted by cadaver on 20 June 2015
Extremely impressive work, particularly how levels have been expanded in the style of the original conversion. The difficulty is also set by Satan himself, considering how there are now arcade enemy attack patterns, but you still can fire only one weapon at a time :) | User Comment Submitted by iceout on 20 June 2015
Just watch a Youtube video of the original version. Nice improvments! | User Comment Submitted by Unkle K on 20 June 2015
Congratulations on the release. It's simply amazing in every aspect. | User Comment Submitted by Smasher on 20 June 2015
summer begins today, but it seems X'Mas to me! :) | User Comment Submitted by Zyron on 20 June 2015
Amazing! And just as frustrating as the arcade. Argh! ;) | User Comment Submitted by GeoAnas on 20 June 2015 User Comment Submitted by Doc Strange on 20 June 2015
Yeah, I couldn't resist comparing the old with the new as Burglar did. This new version is excellent under all the aspects and the game is finally playable and completely enjoyable. What's next now? :) | User Comment Submitted by Comos on 20 June 2015
Yeah ! Truly outstanding work ! | User Comment Submitted by ZeroCool on 20 June 2015
what about source files?, would be great to share them as well as example, maybe some additional info about work in progress steps, solutions of problems in production time. | User Comment Submitted by Burglar on 20 June 2015
truly amazing, what an awesome job you guys did on really everything. I played it with the original side-by-side to compare and the funny thing is that I ran into quite a few gamebugs quickly on one side that of course did not exist on the n0s side :)
It's great to really notice also the more delicate bugfixes and rewrites (jumpfix, multiplexer, collision detection) that really improve gameplay.
graphics + music, also really incredible! STE+Mase did a fantastic job. gotta check the music a bit better tho, too many streams on tonight :P
and a spritemultiplexer in the docs? wth?! ;) | User Comment Submitted by The Overkiller on 20 June 2015 User Comment Submitted by E$G on 20 June 2015
you reached the top! nothing can be better! | User Comment Submitted by CONS on 20 June 2015

This time we went all-out and improved the game as much as we could. Most of the code is either rewritten, bug fixed or improved in one way. Graphically and sound-wise the game is completely new, everything was redone and improved. Overall the game is around 4 times the size of the C64 original and is pretty close to the size of the Arcade.
List of major improvements:
- Two completely new levels added.Level 6 has an additional final room.
- Existing 4 levels are expanded to be twice the size of the original.
- All levels have completely new graphics and level designs applied.
- All levels have unique new tunes added which were newly composed.
- New Sound Effects added or changed.
- New sprite multiplexer coded, which will minimize glitches.
- Intro sequence added where Satan abducts the Princess.
- Game Map added, which shows your progress when you are killed or you reach incoming level.
- Game Complete animation added.
- Game Over sequence added.
- Two new Bosses added for levels 5 and 6. They are bigger than any existing enemies in the original game.
- Added a new Jumping Skeleton enemy in levels 5 and 6.
- Moving Clouds recoded so they can be used on level 5.
- Arthur now can turn around when he jumps and he can shoot backwards.
- Added an improved Title/Loading screen with new tune.
- Weapons are now improved and all of them now actually make sense.
- Enemies have improved AI - not perfect but much better than original.
- Levels 1-4 are done in 2 parts now, but transition between them is fully seamless.
- Flying Knights at level 2 can only be shot from behind as in Arcade.
- Zombies first dig out some dirt so you can spot them before they kill you.
- Collision detection is drastically improved - you won't get killed when a bullet flies over your head anymore.
- Dragon Boss covers more of the screen area now and you need to shoot his head three times, and he won't shoot so many bullets anymore.
- House Ogres are easier to kill now.
- 'Sparkles' are now visible when you hit an enemy.
- Weapons that are dropped depend on the level you are playing, so you cannot get the shield in the beginning.
- Pause Game and Quit Game added, which can be activated by Run/Stop key.
- Arthur can jump over obstacles now even if he touches them. In the original he only jumped up.
- Time limit is now different for each level.
- 7 Trainers added for your pleasure. |
