I wish this demo would push the hardware more, since it's REU after all. Nevertheless, the hires rotator and Hoaxers logo are great eye-candy. The art is beautiful and huge.

@Firehawk: Neat prod, no need to "justify" it with false claims about the AGA-focus of Solskogen. ;) (No AGA releases there last year. And in 2014 1 out of 9 entries were AGA and the compo was won by an OCS demo)

Thanx for all the kind words, that really inspires.
This demo was more about conveying a feeling more than anything else - we try to do something a bit different for Solskogen as the target audience is not exactly C64 based (AAAAAAAAMIGAAAA/AGA)... Hence the REU - but there will never be more than 1 REU demo each year (exclusively for Solskogen). JOE's artistic impression in this demo I was very pleased with, and Bob: we don't mind sharing - we will see for X if this becomes a problem for him (I recon you will have a demo for X2016?).
As for making these effects on stock C64 - it would be difficult to do $3fff images in the border without REU :-).

Ohh noticed that I haven't posted on this demo (shame on mee) :)

A beautiful demo, love the animations in the Bitmap movers really nice idea etc. all dir scrollers, not easy to do.. even though it is in done with REU..
any ways dunno much about reu.. but never the less very inspiring... and ofcoz Joes outstanding gfx and artistic work really stands out.. although he is in Censor as well ;)

Now lets make these effects on a regular C64 8)=)

@Firehawk: Can't vote yet because on my Ultimate Batch 1 (only 16 MB SDRAM in total) I get the REU warning even if I set the REU to 512 KB. Is the check flaky or my Ultimate? Anyone? Thx! (In the meantime I'll try with my other C64 setup w/ 1541U Batch 2 ;-D)

Looks and feels totally ossom. Don't know how hard those effects are to code.. but it doesn't really matter. It gives an alien impression when the screen is not in familiar size etc.. The efforts behind this demo must have been great in any way. Lovely!

Just get back from vacation, and had to see this on real thing first.
Blast. Really impressive : gfx, msx, code. This is what I call originality, which is not easy to achieve nowadays.

the ultimate goal in kung fu is not fighting, but mastering the Qi. And you succeded in that, showing us awesome internal demomaking skills.

The large 3ff image would be so massive in a straight pixel 2 pixel scale and print out on a large format as a gallery piece... my god that one is so massive! I adore it.

This demo has totally everything. Apart from good linking :( Firehawk - next time listen to Joe's design suggestions, believe me ;) Each routine is a killer as standalone, nonetheless ;) Hires rotator made my jaw stretch way too much, like this :( )

It was great to meet you all again. This is a lovely demo and it looked and sounded fantastic on the big screen. Loved the soundtrack, the intro fpp, the huge picture moving up'n'down, bitmap dycps. I'm usually not a fan of REU prods, but in these kind of compos I think it's fully justified as the competitors not only are Amiga, but even heavily expanded Amigas.

I should specify, not a big fan of REU based demos in general and as a principle. This is clearly the best one yet.

This demo is all about the incredible Joe-graphics. Not a big fan of REU-based demos though. Blame Crest. ;)

Seen it again and it is a lovely demo with so much great graphics and music and mood. Super demo code! What more can one ask for? I think the yearly RAU demo is so fun to receive... hope you create another one for next years solskogen!

Cheers for the non-generic main soundtrack, so rare to hear such tunes on the SID. And the Bruce Lee quote, too!
-I wish there was a bit more GFX and/or effects. That would have made it a more fulfilling production IMO.

the demo itself warns about it if you don't have REU
* this is a reu enhanced demo and *
*  requires a reu with at least 512kb  *

I forgot that, sorry. However if you try to run the demo without a REU it will tell you so. I did not think about the 1541U2 possible problems with more than 512kb of memory enabled, so I added the production note.

Use production note/summary to state what size REU is required?

oh also the huge background rotator behind the gfx raised my brows (a lot) but finally I thought its done by lossy animation (fex one virtual cset / frame) + lots of speedcode + masking + benefit of not having to update under the gfx. brilliant idea tho!

Submitted by Oswald on 12 July 2015
this demo is made by joe's splendid gfx ! most of the tech stuff could be done without reu with very little quality loss. actually only at the last part made it raise my eyebrows "how?" while I did not know its a REU one ;)

Very nice grafix, code and music, the only negative thing in this technically cool demo are the transitions, i see some grafical bugs sometimes but that's not worth to talk about...
