Made one more :) Used POKEs and changed the approach a bit. Starfield3.prg is somewhat faster than starfield2.prg and about 1.75x faster than starfield1.prg. But it also flickers a tiny bit.

I removed the taxi from the third version for faster running. I could have added more stars but I wanted the prgs to be more comparable.

Ok, with unrolling and removing the dimensioned arrays it actually became noticeably faster. I retained the old file and uploaded a new one.

See starfield2.prg and starfield.prg for comparison.

Very nice one.:-)
On Forum64.de I have a followup-project running with a forum mate. We want to move sprite stars in three sizes over aconverted koala paint space background.

As the summary says it's a response to a starfied [sic] effect released earlier today. So yes, rushed :)

Tried POKEing but at least with this approach it was slower. The MID$ angle sounds more interesting.

@The Phantom: Dr. of arts (design basically), I suppose that explains the typos.

Can't be a real Dr. - would have gotten the spelling of the release name right.

Then again - here http://www.forum64.de/index.php?thread/67516-v2-bsic-demo-effek.. it is "BSIC" vs "BASIC".

Could it be this thing was more rushed than my current comment? Improve your own code and make it fly for real.

quite slow. I'd do this with mid$ and a long string with a star in it. but maybe simple pokes would be faster.

Wait a minute... I wasn't told about that X or Z handle thing 27 years ago ;)

Not bad, but think the stars would look better coming from the center outward.. But seeing that space taxi (mwuahaha.. hey taxi!), I can see why they move they way they do.

What are you a Dr. of? (and don't be an ass about it saying medicine - nobody likes a smart ass ;) )

I only did this so that someone could do it better :)
