Summary
Submitted by Mibri on 1 January 2020
This is a tune for C64 with 8580 SID and the FM-YAM cartridge from Xentax. You will hear three regular 1x speed SID channels combined with six FM (YM3812) channels. I used GoatTracker to compose the SID sounds and EdLib (an MS-DOS tool by JCH/Vibrants) to compose the FM sounds.

This tune can be played in VICE (versions 2.4 and 3.3 are both OK) as long as you have 8580 selected in SID settings and SFX Sound Expander (YM3812) enabled in Cartridge/IO Settings (version 2.4) or I/O Extensions (version 3.3).

Dr. Science’s visualiser effect on the bottom-right of the screen is responding to FM sound data; the top meter is for the bass lines on FM channel 1, the middle meter is for the percussion sounds on FM channel 2, and the bottom meter is for the piano chords on FM channels 3-6. Another couple of FM sounds can be heard at certain points in the tune, but not often enough for me to want them to be represented in the visualiser.

Many thanks to Mr. Mouse for sharing his special D00 player code, Dr. Science for helping me put the executable together, and FatFrost for the logo!

A video featuring sound from a real 8580 and FM-YAM, recorded by Mr. Mouse, can be found here: https://youtu.be/xP1JnE5aGb0

An ‘oscilloscope view’ video showing activity on the nine individual channels can be found here: https://youtu.be/He6x7Tl8anY
