This is a really nice idea for a release (personally I would like to hear more folks attempt stuff like this on SID) and a peaceful, charming soundscape.

So well put together scenery...sounds like a lot of tweaking involved and that woodpecker for president :D

Yes, the Idea behind this was cicadas chirping, similar to the beginning of maniac mansion, but I also love the idea behind the woodpecker ^^

Nice read, Merzbow would fancy a laugh. Great soundscape, by the way.

Hey iAN, I know what you mean, but I think you have to differate between just random sound effects and a complete loopable soundscape, I think the Borders are fluid here. Just think of Horror Music in silent hill for example.

@iAN CooG: You have to throw away at least 1/10 of HVSC in that case, don't you? Including couple of awesome SFX backgrounds by JCH&DRAX :) Be consistent about it, plz.

I understand, HVSC is a completely separate context altogether, and as it only has categories for music and music only... Although a separate SFX category in it too would be nice. :)

To be honest, I'm kind of surprised that even though there are several subcategories for code and graphics, there is practically only one for sound here in CSDB. That's definitely something that I'd improve here. Though what I've gathered, the database structure is quite complicated, so it may be much easier said than done.

Jojeli: I'm not questioning if it qualifies for your compo, that's up to you.
For me this doesn't qualify for inclusion in HVSC as it's not music, we don't include sfx only sids. Then people can release whatever they want, farts, noises, etc, but don't get surprised if you don't find it in HVSC afterward.

@Ian, quoting myself from the event discussion: "To be exact, the tune can be anything the composer can come up with, let it be music in a traditional sense, or arrhythmic buzzes or noises or whatever some people may not consider music, or may consider SFX. As long as it loops back to the beginning after 15 seconds(ish) or less."

The only reason all compo entries have to be categorised under "Music" is that it is (excluding the collections of the former) the only category for sound in CSDB. Let's not let the platform's features to restrict the sound artists' creativeness. :)

Hey mate,

No worries, as long as the loop is immutable (that is, it sounds the same on 1st play and all subsequent plays), go for it man! To be honest, I'm quite surprised there aren't more SFX / soundscape type loops in the compo, I was kind of hoping there would. :D

Cheers,
Jani

Why? This is not even music, just some sfx, nice ones but does not qualify as a tune for me.

This is my 4th entry, removed "dark future" from this Competition instead
