Your definition of "crack" is wrong, cracking implied protection. If there is nothing to crack, it's not a crack. It's just linked, which is already a credit, but lacks a release type. No one back in the day called such releases cracks, they would get laughed off the scene. | User Comment Submitted by XmikeX on 30 September 2024
Hedning, if we're really invoking "back in the day" gravitas, then (as you should recall) unprotected 'magazine' games like this seldom registered on anyone's radar.
Excuse my naviety with CSDb, as I don't come here often. Perhaps CSDb could benefit from an "IntroLink" category, if it doesn't already have one? ... Cheers ! | User Comment Submitted by hedning on 30 September 2024
XmikeX: Noone actually claimed anyone cracked anything here. The CSDb release type is "crack", even for plainly introlinked things. Many originals were spread unprotected even back in the days ofc. Same goes for them. When someone is credited for "cracking", it's another story, though. You can read more here: V.8.3.1.1: https://csdb.dk/help.php?section=rules : "By our definition a "crack" in the Database is a Program which has been somehow modified (which preferably adds some value over the Original) and then released to the Scene. Yes we know that doesn't match your definition." | User Comment Submitted by XmikeX on 30 September 2024
Wasn't this game originally published by Compute!, in at least one Compute! book and/or mnagazine article?
There was no protection associated with this game (and several other Compute! games I've seen on CSDb)
Can anyone educate me as to why unprotected games like these are tagged as Cracks, besides for generating valid points somewhere?
Not trying to be mean, here. I am genuinely perplexed. Oldskool era would not allow this as a "Crack", IIRC.
