After ~10 years in making (ish) I would be disappointed if it wasn't great, but you guys delivered!! and I am not disappointed ;)
Congratulations to the whole Booze team, you guys did deliver the candy we have been waiting for such a long time ;).
Hope that we don't have to wait for another 10 year to the next EOD killer demo. I am very happy to se Pernods stuff in there as well, I remember him
at a Datastorm 2013 or 2014 and he said to me that he had to "fix" or correct an effect that Jackasser did b4,
- so I did that in the side border hehe [Pernod said]
I guess that was the change disk side part you where talking about ;) I Remember that conversation well hehehe..

There where so many many woooonderfull things in there! thanx Booze boys for letting us know that its time to sharpen the Demo fx an extra notch again ;)

What Trident said. And let me just add to my previous comment: The twister is absolutely gorgeous! <3 It looks like a million colours, and like it is from an Amstrad CPC demo rather than C64 and its "dull, brown palette" as the haters on teh interwebs tend to say. :)

there was talk of a new booze demo for years but it never amounted to anything that was as substantial as people were expecting - until now.

and what a great show! my favorites:

* the basic fader with its understated complexity - this is heaven for code connoisseurs! so many things going on under the hood to make those things happen so seemingly effortlessly on the screen.

* the seamless bitmap mover is extremely smooth - and it looks like it is single-pixel perfect too

* those the edge of disgrace and uncensored-style effects are combined into one now, cool!

* limited bobs, now more colorful than ever - very nice with that dither pattern

* the turn disk part is like a punch to the face! insanely massive, incredibly effective, and one can imagine that there is a ridiculous amount of tweaking that went into it. particularly the switching between the effect's modes, which is entirely seamless as far as i can tell, must have taken a lot of work

* the perspective bitmap scroll: amazing!

* the bitmap squeezer: this effect is so brilliantly simple that you wonder why it hasn't been done to death since the 1980s. and it opens up entirely new paths for effects that have previously been unexplored. fantastic!

there is a lot of the aesthetics from edge of disgrace in here too, particularly those black borders everywhere, that make us know that we are in a booze demo.

on the negative side, yes, the overall presentation isn't as smooth as we're used to from booze (some of the movements have some very visible hard cuts, the music and the theme feel bolted on, and the demo ends kinda abruptly) - but i much rather take this over having to wait 10+ more years for the demo to be released!

"Always feels festive when you guys release something"

this.

I tell you: on our little chat we were arguing how this and that was done, since we've seen the videos only, and that is the scene for me is about as a coder.

Every part is technically stunning.

A bit rushed this time, but Dane is right, we are happy you are still releasing.

God bless you.

Divine code, sublime graphics, and how they work together are off the CSDB voting scale. You guys still got the densest smoke and most polished mirrors in the biz. :) But as some others have also noticed, the rest does seem a bit rushed, and I really don't feel or hear any connection between what's happening on screen, loosely glued-on theme, and the soundtrack. Feels like all three belong to totally different, and different style of, demos.

Some seem to criticise us who criticise the demo, as we should respect the intense amount of effort that has gone into this production. At least what comes to my opinion, I criticise because I DO see the intense effort that's gone into the code and graphics, and with more care being put into the theme, directing and soundtrack, this could have been a demo that was two levels above anything else in every department; a reference for years to come. As it is, it unfortunately feels like a somewhat lost opportunity.

I do apologise for the brutally honest criticism. I debated with myself for a day if I should write a review of sorts, or just stay quiet. But as they say, it's windiest at the top of the mountain. :) If it'd be my production, I'd much rather hear sincere opinions than silence.
I do still enjoy the excellent effects and visuals very much, and very much appreciate the hours (thousands? tens of thousands?) of effort you guys have collaboratively put into this, and shared it with all of us to enjoy.

Awesome demo.

The music is simply divine and after hearing it once, I had to come back the next day to dive further into these lovely SID sounds. It's initially a cover song, but so much more. It glued to my memory very fast.

The code is also worth digging into, with some awesome effects. Given the credits, I know these are people who bring top notch work, every time.

Good work everyone. Worth a number one at (any) party, IMO.

Always feels festive when you guys release something, especially of this magnitude.
Quite some parts got me amazed watching for the 1st time, so had to look a bit into it. :)

The mega vertical picture panner and shrinker fx in the last part is particularly amazing. How huge is that bitmap (5 screens?) and being played with like it's nothing. Kudos for the graphicians for working with the limitation of new colormem only every 6th char, and coming up with this picture looking good and convincing. The flip disk allborder gfx flipper uses similar tech with no badlines, but with sprite border extensions, I'm sure a lot more challenge to execute it than it might look.

The sierpinsky vector looks very slick and cleverly done by fine multiplexing one tetraeder 4 times, I'd say up with Axis' routine, not better or worse, since that one had perspective and was also buttery smooth. The rotating perspective zoomscroll is also at first glance feels too good to be true.
Of course a few parts might be not as heavy hitters compared, but it makes me very sad see being critisized, fe. someone referring the kefrens and the twister parts 'boring standard', when (at least I) haven't seen it done this way ever before. I would have voted 10 alone on the last part, the rest is just extra, people should give due respect for this demo experience.

This is a very nice demo, mind blown on the turn disk part and the lines that were on the screen for 500msec. My partner also sends her regards to the musician for using that Morricone melody piece for the turn disk part's short loop. :-D

That was the working title for a while but we scrapped it. Almost all gfx was made the last two weeks before the party. I added the first music file a week before the party and the other 8 basically at the party. So whoever suspected this to be a rush job is quite right. Most parts have been gathering dust for a while, but everything was linked and put together at an insane pace the last weeks before (and at) Fjälldata. Maybe we should have spent a few more months polishing things. Or maybe you should just be happy we still release demos. :)

Absolute VIC pwnage! Couldn't believe my eyes when I watched the stream but it luckily turned out real.
This is an expression of what I call technical creativity – using sprites for masking over advanced VIC tricks is pure insanity and cycling hell. Plus obv you had to add the black border to make your lives even harder ;D
So many novel ideas mixed up with graphical excellence (palette squeezed to the max)...

I read a lot of negative comments which is a bit sad, I would not even try to estimate the amount of man-hours that went into such production. It's a true gift to all of us and our demoscene.

Thank you, you Boozers <3 Love to you all.

I love that the soundtrack starts off and is very similar to EoD and I don't mind the Western style to it. The tGBaU theme maybe repeats one too many times in the 2nd part (especially if you leave Turn Disk part too long on, but it is just SO GREAT part).
And you should really leave Mahoney's distorted rotating rasters that look like they are in 3D for a bit longer time on the screen!

Really amazing demo and a winner for sure. Gfx, code and sid are amazing as always. To rise the bars you set by yourself is not pretty easy these days. Yes, there could be more sid´s, but dane is dane, but i such a great way. yes here and there is stuff we have already seen before ( but in a much more simple way the most times). the transitions could be better, but they focused there abilities on the effects. But for me booze deliverd with a bam and much wtf moments. Loved it while watching the stream, and watched it a lot today and i am still pretty amazed. take my 10 guys, i just love you. A little pinch of design here and there and it would be a 11! i wish i could code that good.

Somehow this demo feels rushed to me. It's the little things that are missing, the smoothness, going into details like we know demos from HCL and co.

Great effects that leave me stunning how the hell one could pull this off.

I would presume these are leftovers and cutoffs from the next big and polished and planned to death Booze demo.

And that's what hurts me most tbh. Even those "leftovers" are way better than most coders will pull off these days. ^^

I mean, how wrong can one go with coders like HCL, JackAsser, Mirage, Pernod, Björn and even Mahoney contributing to a demo?!

Will be interesting to see the coming demos from Censor, Performers and G*P on how they stack up to these parts.. ;)

This demo makes me question if i can call myself a coder. I've watched it 4 times already today including one with the debugger :)
Nothing is obvious here. Nothing is simple. When Booze "recycles", it's recycling++ taking the fx to another level (either in speed, size or amount of colors) while sending the subtle punch to the previous coders. When Booze innovates - it's pure "how the hell it's done". Last time i was so delighted was when watching 3rd side of Next Level. But this one is even better. And this time Pernod delivered the "rotating rasterbars" WTF vibe! I like the EoD references here and there but i do not compare it to EoD. The demo, as it is, is a pure "codeboy's" box of candies. Thank you guys. Thank you.

That totally blew me away!
There were countless WTF moments in this demo. After first watching it i was siting motionless in silence for a good 5 minutes.
Only the music... it has vibes too similar to edge of edgrace, it makes you wait for a well know motive to continue, but then there is something different, making it feel something is not right. But maybe it is to do stress the other WTF moments... Or maybe i just listened and watched Edge of Disgrace way too many times.

11/10

Gotta agree soundtrack could be more inspired and novel. Also, music doesn't fully comunicate with the rest of ingredients, playing mainly on its own, and beating GBaU theme to death is pretty lazy. That said, I cannot vote below 10 ;)

Rotating distorted rasters 馃槏

I don't mind demo having one solid music track, but I agree with Groepaz. This is a comfort zone production. Not much (or at leat not too noticeably) going on in department of communication between audial and visual department. The demos that stay in our memories usually had epic music soundtrack fighting togerher, and sometimes even shamelesly outperforming the stuff that was happening on the screen. And this demo has so many epic effects, that it would never sound pathetic if there was more pathos and epicness accompanying them. Coders push boundaries. Musicians should try to play around and push a bit more.

This or that, this is still 10/10 for me. And soundtrack is solid. It's just good to remind Dane from time to time, that he can do a lot more "mess" and he should never hesitate to do it :)))

The Good

Loved the turn disk part, Nebulus rules. Really liked the stretchers, and the horizontal thing, not sure what to call that yet. I liked most of the art and the triforce part. The theme is cool and a bit different.

The Bad

The music is irritating and turned it off after just a couple of minutes. I am surprised a two sided demo only has one. The bog standard twister and kefrens bars are snoozefest for me. Zoomers and plasmas too, nothing original here even if FLI.

The Ugly

That pic during the triforce part...

Overall a nice demo, not the best ever, not even close.

code-wise: probably outshines the whole scene again, even to an ignorant eye it HAS to be miles ahead of both Uncensored and - particularly - EoD

gfx-wise: i haven't seen a demo more colourful AND eye-pleasing on this platform :') one never gets an impression that it's a showoff of code strength. even better: the code seems to 100% serve the beauty. to me this is the most important achievement

presentation-wise: plays in its own league (not trying to match the joyous feast of Next Level nor focused storytelling of 13:37), a total mastery of condensation, it might as well discard the theme

sound-wise: relaxed approach that should be envied. undoubtedly everyone will appreciate that among all those groundbreaking movements and impossible pixels, there's still an already known element - the self-pleased style audio not taking part in any race

Wow. Just wow. I missed the Fjalldata stream and didn’t even know till this morning that Booze had delivered..!

And HOW they delivered. This is some serious stuff here. I have some sleuthing to do later to figure out how some of this is possible :’-)

When I saw Bob’s Bobs pop up I thought “oh no, here we go.. now fade it out and back in with some multicolor bitmap or something”.. but thankfully no, that “record” can stand with No Bounds for now :-)

How you did the horizontal FLD..? The perfect dual bitmap slice? And so much more… jaw drop.

Fjalldata deserves these demos, especially now that Gubb is gone (for now).

Really great stuff guys and I really hope you will get rewarded for it. A demo should be valued by its quality and not so much by which competition its enters. As it happened the Fjalldata competition presented really high quality productions (Much higher than I expected) so to me it was a bold move to present your demo here. I always felt that 'Andropolis' got much less attention than deserved and would have gotten if it compeeted at X
