@TheRyk Quantum Soundtracker player detects the SID type on startup and chooses the appropriate Mahoney DAC table for "pseudo" 8-bit output. Detected SID is shown on the screen. 8580 is slightly smoother (the possible sample output values are distributed more evenly), but quieter at least in VICE.

Digifix mod should NOT be used, because the 8580 DAC table is based on the non-modded setup. Also, you should not change the SID type in VICE without reloading the program. If you do either, you just add some type of distortion or fuzz pedal to the output :D

sounds like $d418 samples? -> hence my question: Really 8580? At least 6581 recommended imho as on 8580 (and emulation: reSID not fast SID) everything seems rather mute... reSID 6581 or reSID 8580 digifix sounds ok :)
