Interesting game. I play it in Denise V2.5 with RunAhead (no input-lag) and it feels exactly, like playing it on the real C64.

@cgatGPZ yes, I just saw it by downloading the new tool and check the new crt content. Thanks!

@chatGPZ can the crtID 0x55 be created with the new cartconv tool as well?

yes, of course

@chatGPZ can the crtID 0x55 be created with the new cartconv tool as well? The current release for stronger edition is created with the cartconv tool I had with the modded emulator.

Well done. Changed cart type to 0x55 and works in GTK VICE 3.9 r45695
Of course the cart type 0x55 is not supported by Denise, which should be fixed to support the official assigned value for the MD2 cart, and the old patched vice can be deleted for good.

new build should show up here in 20 minutes or so: https://github.com/VICE-Team/svn-mirror/releases

Oh well, nice effort with the game indeed!

A bit of a mess with the .crt now though - the preliminary crtid (79) from back then is used by other cartridge types by now. (patch the 0x4f in the header to 0x55, that will give the correct crtid)

Adding it to trunk now...

OK I managed to finally run it with Denise V2.5 (2.4 wasn't accepting the crt)

@hedning I know that Denise just supports MD2 cartridge format. But the development of this edition started one year and a half ago, and the VICE team told me that, before to include a new type of cartridge in their project, a physical copy of it should be available first. So I always used the modded VICE all this time to test my game. Denise support came much after this, and I'm glad of it.

Categorised this entry as "game preview" as the author posted on Lemon 64 that this is a new demo available to download from his youtube https://youtu.be/dNT9yBsi1Dk.

As said; there are emulators that work with MD2 out of the box. Vice is not the only emulator. It shouldn’t be mandatory to provide modded Vice. It should be mandatory for the Vice team to be quicker to add support though. ;)

@iAn CooG you're right, I forgot to include links to the modded VICE emulators :) Now they should be visible in the download section of this page.

Great release!

It works fine in Denise 2.5 which comes with MagicDesk 2 support out of the box!

from Lemon64
The game uses a new kind of cartridge, called Magic Desk 2 (MD2). Actually, only a modded version of the VICE emulator can run the game, so you have to download both emulator and CRT game files in order to play it. The game can be downloaded for free at Dropbox.

Where is this modded VICE? This should have been said somewhere in the entry.

Does it even work in any VICE version?
3.9 r45465
smart attach gives in vice.log:
Error - smart attach failed for 'D:\temp\svc64_stronger_update3.crt' failed
and fails also as attaching crt image
CART: could not attach 'D:\temp\svc64_stronger_update3.crt'.
VICE v3.2 : unknown cart id 79
