Summary
Submitted by Oswald on 16 August 2010
Inspired by the demo 242 from Amiga & a Panic demo showing a hand inserting a disk in this resolution. I have coded a crude rle packer/depacker & a very basic 'anim player' to play sequences from frame nr x-y, change colors, wait x frame, etc. Mind you the demo was made in 1997, when video digitizing HW was very expensive, no youtube, etc. So I remember spending many days watching some stupid music channel hunting for videos containing usable video sequences. Then recorded some with a VHS. (!) The dancing girl sequences were filmed with a home camera by me, and my very helpful (girl) friend made some dance moves for me. It all took 5-10 minutes, it was as amateurish as it gets. The c64 flyovers were filmed also by me, co starring Edhellon's c64 aswell :) Then I knew Bigfoot had the HW to do the digitizing, so called him up with the whole demo idea, and spent later a whole day and night at him, bringing it all together. Some moments I will never forget, like how he debugged 6510 asm and talked on the phone at the same time :) Pooring accidentally 2l Cola on the floor. Eating some tasty toasted-sandwiches. When the demo started glitching we opened the 1541 and put a fan over it, everything went back to normal! :) Also the animation itself as quite ad-hoc, but it was funny as how the memory map got fragmented (the demo continously loads new sequences over older ones, and the sizes are random) at the middle of the playtime, and by pure accident we got it defragmented at the end. The c= zoom animation takes less than $0400, and some of the animation just gets loaded in time a few tenths of a second before playing its last frame. I also remember asking Poison for a Wildfire logo only, and he suprised us with a fullscreen picture, that was nice. Then at the party the crowd blew up when it was played. I remember walking home from the party, and some amiga guys in front of us unknowingly of our presence said how cool the c64 demo was etc. Very good memories :)
