Thanks for the raving reviews! This routine has come a long way, starting with a simple 8x8 ECI plasma I did around 2006. I experimented a lot on the sine movements, and it turned out quite good, but I never released it since at the end of the day it was just a slow 8x8 plasma.

Then a few days ago I saw some char plasmas on CSDb, and decided to see if I could make a better one by turning my old routine into a char-dither version. I did most of the code when visiting Slammer on saturday, while being quite drunk. Guess I must have hit the Ballmer Peak. :)

It was quite hard to keep the size at <=256b with the pattern generator added, so I had to try a number of different approaches for this. In the beginning the intention was to use some look-up tables to generate some dithered chars similar to the ones I used back in "Produkthandler Kom Her", but I had to give up on that, and ended on trying some simple algorithms based on adding the x/y coords for the dots. This turned out surprisingly good, and made it look both less blocky and like the movement was smoother. That's what I call bi-winning. :) I finally hit 256 bytes at around 5 in the morning. Thanks to Pågens Kanelgifler for providing the necessary energy.

On sunday we were sitting at a place called Retro Cafe in "Nørrebronx", Copenhagen, and I decided to finish and release it. Credits for the demo name goes to Slammer and Charlie Sheen.

Disclaimer: The code is quite unsafe, since it relies on some zeropage addresses having certain values at startup. After releasing it I discovered that it was enough to turn off CRT emulation in Vice for the pattern to fuck up. So it might look weird in other Vice versions than 2.3 on OSX, and most likely on the real thing as well.
