I don't blame the emulator, the screw up is mine (not clearing $3fff). What did surprise me was the different RAM init patterns, which turned out to be another screw up on my end: I had tweaked the RAM init settings in x64sc.
Since I'll never use this intro anyway, the bug will remain :)

no need to blame the emulator when the problem is in the demo code =)
add an init for $3fff and it's all good.

Ran this again in x64 and x64sc with -default, now both emu's show a fucked upper raster due to the RAM init pattern of VICE ($3fff being $ff).

wonder what you did to see a bug in x64 - the ram init is the same in both (and it worked fine here =D)

perhaps dont use "inject to ram" or similar crap? =D

(and - it will randomly occur or not on real C64s too - it depends on the type of RAMs)

I do, sort off. But it ain't easy. Wrote my own C64-native editor again. But it's hard not reverting to my old style of 20+ years ago.

But I'm getting there, seems like I'm a lot more critical of my own graphics than in the 'old days'.

I wrote this on real hardware, guess my cart zeroed out memory or I did myself. So like I said, a little screw up on my end, not clearing $3fff.

Real hardware is still the reference. 0:-p

Raster Bug happens on a real C64 too, where you are not guaranteed $3fff wil be zero at startup (and actually it will never be).
So another reason to not use X64SC... :)

x64sc here ;)

I see what you mean, using x64 the upper raster is 'broken', using x64sc it works like it should.

So either a fuck up on my end, or another reason not to use x64.

Edit: fuck up on my end: set $3fff to 0 and the upper raster displays fine in x64.

Not sure, do you mean the grey dot?

Is it expected that upper raster is broken in Vice? ;)
