Looks like I missed this one, and I'm late to the party.

Awesome demo in all aspects. The coherency throughout the demo is well considered, something which is lacking in most C64 demos, even in the most popular ones.

Coding is simply excellent. Graphics are pretty unusual and well thought. And the music is very fitting as expected from Glance, with that melancholic and gloomy sound.

Congratulations to my friends in Glance!

I realize I didn't comment on this gem yet, which is weird, cause I love it!
Many things stand out, but the main thing for me is vibe it has. The soundtrack, flow and design help a lot with that.

And it's still fresh 9 years later :)

remember talking with PC coders on Scenest '96 about coding, and one of them said smth like "yeah but c64 cant even do a 50fps filled cube" I sadly agreed. I can die in peace now :)

@Raistlin: Thank you. The vector you see here is the result of years of work (if you add my efforts for Snapshot version too).

Your other point about fitting the demo to one-side was also another story. At one point we went through all the parts on a second pass with size optimization in our minds. Felt like re-doing lots of stuff.

@Clarence: To see an exceptional coder like yourself recognizing the effort behind the cube is priceless to me. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

It's a nice surprise to see a 100% after all the years, but most importantly good to see the team active.
Amazing, that you managed to enhance the special filled vector from 'Snapshot' to be calculated realtime as well, and without compromising on the size.
I remember not too long ago, it has been considered like "finding the holy grail" of a routine for a c64.

Realtimeness of the the cube's rotation is really awesome! Had a hunch it was all about this, thanks@Skate for confirming.

Another plus of this demo: being released right before 2021, it ramps up my hope for a new Glance-release in a not too distant future :)

80% version was good enough. This is something extra. :) I liked every single improvement in existing parts. Additional gfx, msx and new parts are all amazing.

About that cube at the end...

@Copyfault: Previous 50 FPS vectors (both original and improved by other groups) were filling the shape in realtime but rotations were precalculated. This version is 100% realtime.

This is a nice surprise. Wasn't sure if a final version of Protogeo will ever see the day of light and now - here it is!

It was worth the wait for sure, comes even with a 2nd soundtrack! Thanks for doing it, especially for spending so much time on every detail!


There's one thing I don't know how to correctly class it: the last part. Was it done to prove realtime for the vector-routine? Reading the introductory text one could think that the 50fps realtime vector-routine hasn't been improved meanwhile, but iiuc the one in Incoherent Nightmare runs at a higher res(160x160). I'm sure I'm missing something...
