| to be fair large areas of checker dither will cause vertical chroma striping even in MC mode. as anyone familiar with the old koala gui can attest to. :) |

The author writes:
"A zoom on the top of Mêlée mountain.
Many combinations of regular hires checkerboard patterns will generate some unwanted and disturbing vertical bars on real hardware.
For this reason, the blue/black 1px pattern was changed to 2px pattern.
Please see the CRT screenshots for comparison."
