Woo, thanks Frantic. Or even 6k, then I should be able to fit the rest of the tune and a few more colours ;-)

ccr haha yes. I was a bit undecided about the name/fake group.

ZeSmasher you're too kind! And now we'll never know…

cool that it didn't compete in ICC2019, this could have killed the compo easily :P

Must admit, I did um and ah a bit about whether to break the 5k limit and include a few more colours from the original image :)

What Compyx says if it really ain't CharMode (which would be my first idea). Greatest accomplishment seems hacking down the .SID file to <1K. Anyway, I like it and respect the effort as I know how it feels to lose yourself in such a proof of concept project. :)

Nope - a quick counting script gives 534 distinct characters.

You couldn't fit this in a charset?

This is a belated out-of-compo entry for ICC2019. Aside from being late, it would have been underwhelming as a 16KB entry, while failing to qualify for the 4k category.

However, I believe it would have passed muster for a hypothetical 5k category that otherwise had all the same rules as the 4k. No RAM outside of stack, zero page, $07f8-$1bf6, I/O, and colour RAM is written to without being restored on exit.

Credit of course to ESI for the classic original of which this is a remix.
