As reliable as Turbo Tape ? Only one way to test it: (1) Create a tape. (2) Put it away 37 years. (3) Try to read it without load errors. So we will see the result in 2058 :-)
P.S.: My first tapes from 1984 are still working.

Very nice! I had planned to do RLL2,7 after doing the GCR loader for trance sector but never got around to do anything with it. Thumbs up for doing pre-compensation!

Worked very well in VICE as far as I can tell... :) (I uploaded a dump created with the same C2N that wrote it)

It's difficult to know how reliable the write pre-compensation model is without wider testing. My tapes could be read back years later but that's just one data point.

tape is actually very reliable if you work within the limits - curious to try this on hw

iAN CooG: What makes you think that this is totally unreliable? Just because it was only tested with one tape device?

Seriously, I think the goal with tapes is to write something that is guaranteed to work, not the other way, we already know that tapes are unreliable and prone to errors if signal can't be read correctly each time and everywhere.

So basically this tape encoder it's so unreliable that it is not even guaranteed to work on other hw than the coder's. Ok, received and rejected. Next?
;)
