Trivia Info
Submitted by Higgie on 15 May 2024
While wandering around and chatting at X after the demo compo we were sometimes asked how the values in the "stock ticker" greetings came about.

Well, we thought we needed some greetings in our demo. Greetings are a mandatory part of a scene release, I guess. Some releases even consist of just greetings. ;)

But as Fairlight pointed out in their winning demo: "Greetings? We don't have time for greetings!", we thought of keeping them short by just using short names for each group. This in turn reminded us of a stock ticker format as seen on news tv stations.

What we didn't have were the proper stock prices. We first thought of making an internal ranking but dropped that idea when we noticed that stock prices are already present in the form of CSDb votes. So, the values presented behind each group are just the average votes calculated by CSDb.

Though we made some minor adjustments like:
- if a group had a value for public votes only, we took that value
- if there was no average calculated by CSDb, we calculated it

But what about the "trend indicators" (aka arrows) next to the group names?

For the trend indicators we had to use a very special technique that required extra hardware in the form of dice.
In fact I (Higgie) rolled the dice for each group and got the trend out of that by following these rules:
1 or 2 eyes meant - neutral
3 or 4 eyes meant - up
5 or 6 eyes meant - down

That's it! Just random values. :) ... no one to blame. ;) ... Even if you would have tried harder, fate might have decided to put you on a downwards slope. :-D
