haaa thank you enthusi! I had that compilation problem ("Compiling match.c
match.c:1:0: error: CPU you selected does not support x86-64 instruction set") and removing the "-mtune=i686" parameter saved me :D

Only the 2 quick patches, but Zargon did many other fixes as well.

Great fix Soci!

Wonderful to have a new version of this essential tool :)

This is not your fault, but I am using ARM architectures these days for all my dev machines. It's simple enough to fix, but I think those that do special things (like binary distributions) should have the extra effort, not those that just want to compile locally on their work machine. It's more of a philosophy than an actual problem :)

Change it to -mtune=native then.

But that can be dangerous as well for distributed binaries.

There was a time when VICE packaged in Debian didn't run on a PII-400 out of the box and crashed with an illegal instruction error.

The build server had some fancy instruction set extensions which were not backwards compatible, but was optimized for due to this mtune=native switch.

After some e-mailing this got fixed in recent versions.

Btw. current versions of i386 Debian are supposed to run on anything newer than an a 486, at least for now.

it should be in the standard CFLAGS anyway :)

Nice one!
-mtune=i686 is a but unfortunate (and not required) for some systems.
