Looking for specific Thrust original

Looking through the different cracks of Thrust, it seems there are two versions of the game:

1. Loader picture has a small "Bob" signature. Upon loading, the game shows the high score list and the attract mode. Start address $6c24. Example: Thrust +4H
2. Loader picture has a large "Bob" signature on an embossed base (see Thrust). Upon loading, the game starts immediately, skipping the high score list and attract mode. Start address $6c16. Example: Thrust

I'm looking for an original of version 2 (large signature, game starts immediately). All the 10+ (unique) original tape dumps I've come across are version 1.

I know this is not a request for a scene release, but since I need it for "scene archeology", I thought I'd ask here anyway.

As far as I'm aware, the version of the bitmap with Bob's large signature was an upload for C'NET (Compunet). Perhaps the 1001 version just favoured that version of the pic, or perhaps they acquired a preview from one of the UK computer shows?

Thanks for your reply, Motion. I did notice your comment on the Thrust loader picture release :)

Perhaps you're right, but roughly two thirds of the Thrust versions on CSDb are "version 2". Among those are versions with and without music, suggesting to me that, while 1001 Crew may have gotten their mitts on a preview copy, this can't be the case for all the 20+ "version 2" cracks on CSDb, even taking into account that a good fraction of them are likely to be recracks.

I notice that there are multiple different barcodes for Thrust tape releases. This may just indicate different inlay translations, not necessarily different tapes.

Despite the fact that the loader picture shown in the May 1986 ZZap review of Thrust is clearly the "version 1" picture, I still strongly suspect that the "version 2" tapes were sold early on, and could perhaps be found in someone's collection.

So, collectors, does your original version of Thrust throw you directly into the game once it's done loading? If so, please give me a shout.

According to HVSC the preview version had bugged music. The music-less version was the preview version with music disabled then ?

The cassette inlay contains the manual for the game. Hope this helps you in achieving a better high score.

Were there only tape originals or also disk based ones?
I have a kryo dump here of a disk - likely copied from Zero-X archives ages ago. Quick glance appears it doesnt have a copy protection though.

I am 95% sure I did Thrust GOLD from a disk based original. I can't recall any kind of protection. Bugjam most probably has the disk now.

Walt: I did remember the HVSC/STIL note, and had thoughts similar to yours. However, I don't see the music being panned in the Zzap review. It's more like "the music is boring, with a few good bits", if I remember correctly. The versions without music had either zeroes (Thrust and (dupe) Thrust, or the James Bond recrack Thrust. Also Thrust +D, Thrust and Thrust) or "garbage" (Thrust or Thrust (both recracks of a third crack?)) at $2000, where the music goes in the versions with music. I haven't seen any versions where the music is present, but disabled.

C0, Ninja: The disk originals I've seen (only one or two) have been "version 1". Thrust Gold is another "version 1", so that matches well with what Ninja says.

If anyone has a disk original which dumps you directly into the game after loading, I'd be happy to hear from you.
