But seriously, the version string is part of the fire&forget install routine, and that one weighs in at more than $1900 bytes. Even when disabling full native support (have 1541 drive code only, none for 1571 or 1581/FD), it's still rather large at $0b00-ish bytes.
So that string is only a tiny fraction of the install routine anyhow, and so it better be somewhat informative for debug reasons.
