I really like this tool. It saves me lots of work and sometimes guessing of which player was used for a tune. Since I make lots of SID recordings, I also want to document the PlayerID and SID model. Most of the time I can do it my own little way. But sometimes it can be tricky when a composer is using an improved player or a variPlayer. Sometimes I have to spend many hours to depack a song and find out it wasn't made in DMC ;) Thanks for a nice tool. You take my comment wrong HVSC guys. It's not critcism of the tool. This tool is important and I don't have anything against it. Absolutely.
I was talking about how I'm going to make it even more anonyomous. That's all. No hidden comments in data, no leaks. Just digtal recording of the sound. As far as composer identification is concerned. In some cases identifying the player/editor narrows the possibilities. Identifying a player is the first step, to contact an old composer and ask if its his tune. we have used a tool like this for many years, and f.ex found some old fred gray, david whittaker tunes with it.

ian coog I think you do not understand what CreaMD and I are talking about. The point is that many musicians in the C64 scene use the same player always and when you not know the musician of a tune, but you hear a tune and look than at the player routine than you can guess this tune was to 90% made by musician XYZ. Some musicians have the very own style like Dane, I guess when he not change his style, than everybody knows when a tune is from him.
It is hard to say if a tune is made by Drax or Wiklund, they have nearly the same style. Also some other C64 musicians have nearly the same style and when it comes than to voting, than you vote more for your favourite buddy and not for the one that you more dislike.
Not everybody do this, many are trying to be objective, but I must say it is a interesting idea to have only .mp3-SID files to judge. | User Comment Submitted by iAN CooG on 14 November 2012

I say YES to all stuff in MP3 during the compo/voting phase in The (C64.sk) SID COMPO !

Of course full credit for idea should go to Cadaver and his SIDId, which remains open source and in fully portable C.

I have always been curious which players were used for songs and started a similar experiment in the past on my own but nothing serious came out of it.
Good to see it made by experienced SID & HVSC coders. |
