just tested on my favorite setup, STEREOinSID with mix old left box/new right box and fooled around with balance a little. I must admit, it sounds a little more "normal" on 6581 than on my fav 8580 (rev 5 if anyone cares), bass is really dominant in a muffled way on new SID (yeah, writing about music just ain't easy, hehehe, hope you know what I'm saying).
If I were you, I'd just flag it "BOTH".
Very nice experimental/progressive tune, anyway | User Comment Submitted by iLKke on 10 June 2014
Pretty please, I'd be grateful | User Comment Submitted by iLKke on 10 June 2014
@frantic: Yes what I meant was it sounded better than default, and that "slight tweak" saved the day really.
Can anyone test it on their 8580 and see if it works fine? It's easy to tell, if there are no very loud shrieking noises, then everything is OK :) | User Comment Submitted by Frantic on 8 June 2014
@ilkke: defMON doesn't really pretend to overcome sid chip differences. Only a slight little tweak that makes that filter range sound just a liiiittle more the same across chips. There is still a substantial difference between chips. | User Comment Submitted by Radiant on 8 June 2014
(Not all C64C:s have 8580 SIDs.) | User Comment Submitted by iLKke on 8 June 2014
Not sure why it went belly up on the 8580 as I made the tune on a C=64c.
It played fine on a C=128 with a 6581 but then again defMON tunes are meant to sound same(ish) on both chips. | User Comment Submitted by TheRyk on 8 June 2014
or they confused the ICs ;) | User Comment Submitted by spider-j on 8 June 2014
They seem to have strange filters down under :-) My tune also didn't sound like here on any of my 8580.
This tune also sounds "wrong" on 6581 if you compare it with real 8580. Checked on real machine. There should be nice filter sounds where the "bleeps" were on 8580 and on 6581 there were just "bubbles" ;-) | User Comment Submitted by iAN CooG on 8 June 2014
At compo played wrong on 8580, and correctly (without noises) on a c128 with 6581. It's really meant for 8580? |
