It's not actually a virus, or at least is a benign one. It's more a resident and selfreplicating directory display tool.
The ">" file is the loader for the "<" file, which is the resident code;
once installed it hooks the load vectors, checking if you load"$",8
This will display the dir without actually loading it in the basic ram, and while doing so it displays a fixed header
"visual--arts".
and the rest of the files on disk, filtering the ">" and "<" files.
But before doing so, it checks for the track 18, if it sees it's not installed in the disk, it will self replicate by creating the ">" and "<" files and changing the actual disk header to a text that will display only:
LOAD">",8,1
and nothing else when the dir is loaded from a clean c64. |
