I keep coming back to this lovely demo. It has such a nice design and feeling to it. The music is probably one of the best of its kind and yes it suits the rest of the demographical effects spot on!

For a long time I didn't care about this demo, but recently I watched it again and it became one of my favourites.

And I remember the endless stream of previews of the music which I had running non-stop while coding Sphaeristerium. :D

Yay, thanks! This was my first attempt at splitting a soundtrack into separate files. It worked. :)

What a stylish demo. And the tune is one of the best demo-soundtracks ever!

Very stylish art demo from the boyz of Booze. The drawn relief graphs are my fave here, but also very nice overlay effects done with kanji. Solid production.

almost 10 years ago i saw this demo with different eyes... i thought it was
a very nice demo, great music, wonderful graphics and nice code.. now 10 years
later my opinion is, that it is a true peace of art.. it is so peaceful, so relaxing, serene..
it is almost perfect...

This demo is one of the coolest, most stylish demos I've ever watched, it simply looks no less than mindblowing on a real C64 with a good old CRT monitor.

Ooh, nice one!
Once in a while I come across demos like this, hidden gems that occasionally get mentioned in a thread but are forgotten in some way.
Great tunes, lovely music, nice coding. And an extra point for featuring Asian women! \o/

Wow. What a demo. I love the design, the graphics - some of the best ever on c64 and ofcourse the main thing - the music. Perfectly suited and in sync with the demo... especially like the Chicane-Halcyon part of it. GREAT !

I just fell over this demo today and I hardly couldn't believe eyes and ears. Really great work! I think the soundtrack is one of the best tunes Dane ever made...!

One of the best designed demos that I ever saw on the c64. The music made by Dane is just outstanding. Combine that with the stylish code and graphics and you have a winner. 10/10

Well, Im a big fan of actual works of BD. I think they are looking to the future when talking about C64. I love those design demos, not a lot of parts, but seems that they have something to say, something to share... You have to get this, I´m still amazed that all those pieces of art are for free :)

This demo is really nice. Clean and nice design, cool routines and good music. Something that disturbs me though is the idea of competing with not finished demos. I cant even remember what was changed from the 73%-version.

Very nice GFX and Effects! Thumbs up, Dane! I even recognized the conversion of Chicane's Halycon in one of Dane's tunes, a tune which really amazed me.

Thanks Anix. A theme we had for the demo was opacity and transparency. I worked around that and the kanji sign for 'sisters'.

i must comment that the ifli female in the middle of this demo is possibly the most striking scene art i have ever seen on any platform. i'm quite curious where the inspiration comes from... it reminded me of some photos & drawings i had seen from colaboration between hr giger & debbie harry, but after checking some books i didn't notice any obvious source there.

When I saw this demo for a first time live at Floppy 2005 party I was quite dissapointed. I expected something like in "Royal Arte" style. No, seems that Booze Design started to cover Fairlight and Triad's styles to make demos without the effects but demos with "message". Graphics and design, almost all done on emulator. No more rivarly between groups about new demo records, just pure work only for release something. The demo itself has a nice design, but that's not enough to satisfy my eyes. I would like to see something new.

All the positive reactions on this demo makes me really happy, thank you! It is fun to hear that our efforts in design and concept are appreciated. You all seem to have understood that Tsunami is not at all another Cycle :).

Some discussions should move elsewhere though. Yelling about gfx converters, who did what and how etc, does not belong in the comments on this release. Please open another thread!

Submitted by _V_ on 29 April 2005
I like the design and thus its wide, no border approach and the pacing of the demo, I like the music which fits said flow, I like the code which boasts some cool and fast layer techniques, I don't like certain graphics due to colouring/concept issues but won't delve any further into that. Suffice to say that a few mental notes were made, and others were re-affirmed. All in all though, a fine product which looks good, standing there next to its Booze Design brethren.

nothing wrong with converted pictures in demos. and i believe dane that he pixelled the pics.
User Comment
Submitted by Dane on 27 April 2005
Leon, it's quite simple. You automatically assume I've converted all my graphics. I know how much time I've spent with it, hence the annoyance. The irony is...I've coded an editor for pixeling while Singular did....a converter? Glass houses anyone?

Ok Dane. Let's stop this right here, it seems you didn't understand me. I'm not against XFLI. I will even try this format, but I still better prefer MCI and ofcoz DrazLace. It's a matter of taste.

Dane:
Coding for REU is easy, just visit: http://www.tkk.fi/Misc/cbm/docs/reu.programming.html
User Comment
Submitted by Dane on 27 April 2005
It's easier in emu-age when you can take screenshots and copy+paste etc. I don't know how to code with a REU so couldn't do any sort of mod for an editor to handle for instance the large picture, since it uses almost the entire memory.

Submitted by Tch on 27 April 2005
Ok,if you made the graphix using that editor, even more respect!
Must have been a bitch connecting them.
Indeed it is a shame that XFLI has not been used more often.
Interlaced "shit" seems to be the standard. ;)
I am currently entangled in UFLI,hope you don´t mind.

Submitted by Deev on 27 April 2005
I started something with it a while back, just to see what it was capable of. The lack of restrictions are pretty amazing, though it's hard work to produce something with. I'm feeling inspired to finish my pic, so watch this space :)

There's nothing secret about my editor. I released it almost three years ago. Just a shame that I don't see more people using it.

Submitted by Tch on 27 April 2005
Hmm,this demo definately contains marvellous XFLI graphix.
There is no doubt that Dane made a special (C64!)-editor to create them.
Maybe he wants to keep that one for himself and thus won´t release any workstages.
Excellent work Dane!!
I can only hope I am not naive.. ;)

Allright Dane! I really can do what I want just like You. I'd like to have a contest with You at some party, but i'd ask You one thing, don't forget to bring the workstages! ;_)

You know Leon, whatever. Good luck with your graphics.
User Comment
Submitted by Deev on 27 April 2005
ah, now I see what Leon is getting at, I thought there was just some improved XFLI tool I didn't know about. I really should keep an eye out for sarcasm :) Most of the gfx in this demo look like they'd be possible to pixel to me.
User Comment
Submitted by leonofsgr on 26 April 2005
Well master Dane! :_) I'm a gfx man... not a coder... I can't write converter, but I don't need it! It's obvious, you did convert somehow. If not directly to xfli then to some other format then colourfilled it! It doesn't matter but it takes away the beauty of the things! Besides it's good to see that the c64 is capable doing such gfx! But anyway I'm rather a fan of a black screen and paint pictures from pixel to pixel! But if you feel better this way...

Submitted by Dane on 26 April 2005
Let's trade. You code a converter for me and I'll start sending workstages :<

Hmm, yes, i know that editor, too! I have it on a disk, but please Dane, could you show me phases for this not really breathtaking, but rather ridiculously well-drawn piece?

Submitted by Dane on 26 April 2005
Editor used is the X-Fli editor. It's on the same disk as Digital Magic.

Dane&David the dynamic duo of the 21st demo century. what a fresh design that delighted my day.
Many thanx for this release.

@hcl: next stop s-bolaget, and I pay :D

by the way, the design looked more like a polish demo than an asian ;D samar is everywhere

ok, i was just going to ask what the the devastating tsunami that struck India, Indonesia and Sri Lanka last Christmas has to do with plotters on c64..
User Comment
Submitted by HCL on 25 April 2005
@Hein: You're absolutely right. Booze Design don't do any messages. We don't deal with peoples sorrow or crisis either. We just do demos. Perhaps that makes us unique.
User Comment
Submitted by Hein on 25 April 2005
As if the pretty boys n girls from Japan or China (I cannot read those signs) have anything to do with the devastating tsunami that struck India, Indonesia and Sri Lanka last Christmas.. Still, a great effort, cool design (especially the Japanese tsunami art at the end I liked) and awesome music (The sounds are very clear), but, the message of this demo makes no sense..

Submitted by Radiant on 25 April 2005
Absolutely shit hot, of course, as is almost everything by BD. More design oriented than any of their previous releases. Some REALLY nice effects as well, although you wouldn't notice unless you know how hard it is to do some of these things on the C64.

Submitted by MagerValp on 25 April 2005
After my hasty and unplanned visit to Floppy I got a bunch of inspiration, and I coded up a few effects almost immediately. After watching Tsunami again at home I see where a lot of that inspiration came from. Excellent work guys.

nice demo, a little lengthy and slow, though. reminds me of the saying some hollywood guy saying "the best effects are those you don't see" - very subtle.. =)
