..and besides, the sprites are not needed at all since you could just have changed to char-mode at the same time you open the lower border, enabling d021=1. :P

@ptoing: well, apparently when you open upper/lower border with hires bitmap mode turned on, it is all black, and switching the $d021 does nothing. that's why the sprites are needed to set the border to white, which is a part of my design - yes, i wanted it to be close to square to resemble album cover :)
so, your change of graphics mode (to hires + sprites) is kinda incorrect in my view. sprites are not overlaying the bitmap area, so they are not enhancing the graphics mode itself - it is pure hires... you cannot compare it to other gfx using sprites for extra colors or extra bitmap area outside of the border :)

Bit on the edgy side, lol. Nicely done though.

And interesting to only use sprites for the extended border instead of changing the border colours. I guess to have a more fixed box shape?
