Essentially its Bresenham algo with the difference your not linearly interpolating coordinates but smallest/highest speed and expansion. The rest is raster trickery.

And it can be done under 1K? ;) Sounds like a new compo - tiniest and best looking parallax chamber :D

I believe this can be done in 160x200 using d011 and d016.

As an echo of Lovebyte'21, we discussed the differences between fantasy consoles and real retro machines in today's VCC meeting.

The effect shown is based on Orbital Decay's 128 Byte TIC-80 program written during the Byte Battle final of Lovebyte 2021.
I wanted to know how well this can be done on a C64 and adapted the algorithm for a 40x25 display. The original ran on TIC-80 which has much more calculation power than a C64. In this version, the computation of formulas has been moved to precalculated tables. However, the tables blow up the program size by 1K. The same effect could likely be achieved using a more straightforward implementation, but that was not the purpose.

Don't worry about your SID if you don't hear sound, this has no music or sfx, since this was not the purpose. ;-)
