Sorry for being a smart ass but ICS version _WAS_ released in 1989 - only not to be found as a working upload on the Internet (at least not here before Mar 2021), but I do see your point and understand your motivation for doing this one.

Bottom line is imho: It's hard to decide if this one's a recrack or not, according to well-informed people who worked on Maniac Mansion GOLD [neoram] and Zak McKracken & Maniac Mansion +1D Fix [german] there's hardly anything out there which is strictly speaking not a recrack of ESI...

Anyway, have fun with this one, Italian gamers and keep in mind to enter 4 times same digit to prevent being jailed for entering "right" code by accident :)

@TheRyk: the release date is today, but I worked on it in late 2015. At that time, the ICS version wasn't released yet.
Help credit removed (I've explained in the docs about connection with the ESI release).

@Max: I also wondered why you put so much effort into it, the ICS version got a complete upload in March 2021, I can't tell how good that is, at least Wildcat wasn't involved, so it might be something :)

PS Your "Help Credit" to a scener "Eaglesoft" still makes no sense if your work is based on Eagle Soft Incorporated version

Ok, now I see someone have released ICS "complete" version.
I'm pretty sure it don't was here before I worked on this.
I've tested fastly now. At least this version fix the "ç" bug. :D

@smasher: That file is taken from a dump of my floppy (like many Italian things you find online, especially those that appeared on the internet in the early 2000s, even if I was not credited as a dumper), and unfortunately apart from the cracktro it never worked using the game disk (neither original nor modified, neither Italian nor English) and I don't know if a complete release exists. So I consider it just a cracktro, but it is not possible to play, unless someone out there has a Mamasoft release (RIP) with a specific game disk.
I worked on this release starting from the original (better: starting from a dump that was created from a floppy that was a 1:1 copy of an original disk).

thx Didi and Massi Cadenti for the answer.
I read the txt but why you said no italian crack was available? Mamasoft from ICS cracked it in 1989: Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders [italian]
cmq: ottimo lavoro per aver sistemato il carattere sballato!

@Smasher: AFAIK in Eaglesoft every code is accepted. The issue is the way the control is handled. From what I understand, the Eaglesoft code replaces the part that comes out when you type the wrong code (so it doesn't increment the counter, which never reaches 3, and allows you to continue playing). In English they probably made a JMP from the correct code routine to that routine inserted in place of the "wrong code" and doesn't incremented the counter anymore. In Italian that JMP doesn't work and crashes because probably the locations in RAM and to disk are different (track and sector are different). That's why it crashes if you enter the correct code. But as I wrote everywhere you just have to put four equal symbols.

ESI cracked the code check by twisting the truth:
Enter incorrect code: Continue
Enter correct code: Go to jail.

does this also happen in the ESI crack? cheat = you can enter any code except for the correct one? uhm, never tried.

@chatGPZ: If you follow the instructions, using the SAME 4 symbols, isn't broken (this because there is no "right code" with the same 4 symbols).
If someone don't read the directory, don't read the docs, and don't read the instructions, is a releaser's fault?

Quote:
if you enter the RIGHT code, the game will crash

so the release should be marked "broken" basically?

Maybe "help" is better. :)

@TheRyk: No, it's more complicated than that. I fixed a bug that involved the vowel è (which was indicated as ç) while for the visa codes I "imported" the Eaglesoft crack of the English version onto the Italian version (I explained, in Italian, all inside the "storiella triste" file on the boot disk).
Now visa code works 99% (if you enter the RIGHT code, the game will crash: I suggest into docs using the same symbol four times, is ALWAYS "wrong" and game continue).
The translation is not mine, it was the officially release in Italian at the time.

ahem... credits: code: Eaglesoft... seriously?

I guess(!) what you try to say is that your translation is a based on the ESI crack?
