Exactly what I was looking for... pity the loader is too sensitive for errors. | User Comment Submitted by Wonder-Boy on 20 October 2007
I had troubles. I/O error. But it works now that I have made sure my card is formatted correctly. | User Comment Submitted by DeeKay on 17 September 2007
Finally!!!! Thank you Gregg! ;-D Can't wait to try that! Now one of the last things I need for ultimate happiness is a decent filecopier from/to Flash, preferrably from within .d64s, too!... | User Comment Submitted by taper on 8 September 2007
Finally! Brilliant work. An even faster version in the works sounds great though, backuping disks can never be too fast... :) | User Comment Submitted by FMan on 5 September 2007
I tried this on my C128 & 1541-II and 32 MB card from a Nokia mobile phone (6600). Worked well. Except it isn't that fast compared to WarpCopy. ;)
Turns out that's a bad comparison to make. The WarpCopy slave sends the raw disk data to the PC and the client running on the PC does the GCR decoding.
Compared to the factory-default disk reader this is of course much of an improvement. Well done! Although I was wondering what it does with errors.
I then inserted a disk that I knew had no track 1 written to it, and your reader just froze indefinitely. Not good. Is there any error handling?
From the information given to me this seems to be a "feature" of DreamLoad. We should bug the DRM members to improve the loader to survive error conditions...

keep up the good work gregg, this is what we need :) | User Comment Submitted by gregg on 3 September 2007
Yes. Much faster. Writing to MMC is very fast, so it should at least be possible to halve the time (that would be 40 secs. per disk side) with a faster loader.
I'm currently hacking on a fast trackloader which is capable of reading a disk side in about 30 secs. (originally made by Krill in '98, a rewrite of the AR6 loader). I need to adapt it to read not files but only tracks. I don't know shit about drive programming though, so I don't know if it'll work out. :) | User Comment Submitted by Twoflower on 3 September 2007
I've really been waiting for a program like this to show up. I believe transferring could be made even faster with a faster loader, right? | User Comment Submitted by Tfardy on 2 September 2007
Hey! It actually worked on my C128 DCR. Cool Thanx, great stuff... Now it's time for a faster writer, since I have to use the kernel version. | User Comment Submitted by ZZAP69 on 1 September 2007
Seems to work just fine. The info screen looks a little fucked up though.
EDIT: Or perhaps it was just my card that was fucked up. I got this strange error command "I/OError #5". | User Comment Submitted by gregg on 1 September 2007
Nope, nothing else needed. DreamLoad is of course integrated into this and merely used as a floppy fastloader.
Did you have problems getting it to work? BTW, this currently works on FAT16 only, unfortunately. | User Comment Submitted by ZZAP69 on 1 September 2007
Great! I have been waiting years for this moment. Now, do I need any other plugin to make it work? I haven't installed Dreamloader.
EDIT: So everything is implemented? I'm off to test it right away.

Yes, in principle it works with 128DCR.
[edit]
Maybe my C128DCR is flaky (some people might say it's flaky by design...). I experience the strange phenomena that sometimes the loader locks up after init, reading the first sector. Now, the workaround is to wiggle the disk inside the drive a little bit. Works reliably and produces fine disk images (for me). :) | User Comment Submitted by Tfardy on 1 September 2007
will it work on c128 dcr ?? | User Comment Submitted by gregg on 1 September 2007
This is a faster version of the MMC64 D64 Reader which utilizes DreamLoad instead of the dog-slow Kernal routines. |
