I like the fast-paced first part best, with the sideborder wanking. I'm missing a few lovesick robots in the part in the screenshot. In my world there's no excuse for the low framerate in the plotter part, especially as you point out that there are 512 plots, as if it was an achievement to be proud of.
Overall, a quite nice demo, for the same reasons as LHS' previous productions: it feels fresh and creative. | User Comment Submitted by Orcan on 21 March 2008
Great demo. PCH I like your new style of composing very much. Your chords are catchy. | User Comment Submitted by bugjam on 19 March 2008
Really entertaining, and neat design too. I like it a lot. | User Comment Submitted by assiduous on 19 March 2008
@viper: it runs ok in Hoxs64/VICE/CCS64. try redownloading the demo | User Comment Submitted by viper on 19 March 2008
How to run this demo on emu ? | User Comment Submitted by Skate on 19 March 2008
@LHS: You prefer not having a perspective? I thought it was an optimization :)
I know how it feels after working hard on a demo project and getting some negative criticism from people who has no clue about behind the scenes of your demo. but this is what today's scene become. you need to take care of everything to make everyone happy (which is usually impossible). if your attemp is not making everybody happy, so don't complain about bad criticisms at all.
what I'm saying is, I appriciate your work, really. but I still think that vector is missing perspective haha :D | User Comment Submitted by CreaMD on 18 March 2008
Yeah yeah I was wondering if this demo would work on SuperCPU without crash, that would be a nice full blown example for it's speed instead of single-part rips out of demos I did once I was playing with it. | User Comment Submitted by LHS on 18 March 2008
4 Stainless Steel - SuperCPU too (remember, emulator sucks!) and it is possible because the vectors are doublebufferd via raster :-D | User Comment Submitted by Stainless Steel on 18 March 2008
Warpmode makes things so fluid :-D

You didn't notice it was a one file... (btw the sample at the end of the animation sounds better at real C64 than Vice).
Ok, the filled vectors are really slow, but I like this oldschool effect.
It uses realtime vertex calc because there was no mem for precalculated vertex table (the dots use a table). About the filling. I didn't use
LDA $2000
EOR $2001
STA $2001
but
LDY #$0
LDA ($FB),Y
INY
EOR ($FB),y
STA ($FB),Y
because memory as I wrote. I have one routine for all (char) columns with change in $FB/$FC. | User Comment Submitted by JackAsser on 18 March 2008
@LHS: Yeah maybe my comment was a bit harsh. When I wrote it I didn't notice it was a one file. However one file or not, the framerate is way too slow for my taste ;). What exactly do u mean by truncated EOR-filling? Unrolled and only fills the bytes in a enclosing circle? | User Comment Submitted by Sander on 18 March 2008
Nice to see Padua doing stuff again!
I enjoyed it. | User Comment Submitted by LHS on 18 March 2008
The filled vector doesn't miss perspective, but the perspective is purposely quiet (SKATE) and is too slow because uses realtime vertex calc and truncated EOR filling (HCL), because onefile... The scroller can be much more faster, but unreadable (or tearing).
Thanks to others for appreciation ;-) | User Comment Submitted by HCL on 18 March 2008
Very nice demo, but sadly most part are horribly slow. For a one-filer it's ok though, or is it? :). | User Comment Submitted by Richard on 16 March 2008
This demo is awesome. I love the music in the second part. Part 1's tune is also cool. | User Comment Submitted by Joe on 16 March 2008 User Comment Submitted by iAN CooG on 16 March 2008
Very nice and everything crammed in one file. Thumbs up!
@skate: 64copy alt-f3 is your friend. And no, I won't shut the fuck up :D | User Comment Submitted by SECRET MAN on 16 March 2008 User Comment Submitted by Skate on 16 March 2008
for a single file demo it's very nice. i liked most of the effects.
vector part was missing perspective. dot part was a little slow. but it was real fun to watch 512 dots teapot object rotating at my 1084. rest of the effects were also very well executed.
@iAN CooG: next time I'll check every single file in *.d64 even rest of the files are working fine. no no no, I'd better write a utility which automaticly checks all *.d64 files right after I download.
...or you better shut your mouth :)

Nice demo. Some new favorite screens to keep in memory.... | User Comment Submitted by JackAsser on 16 March 2008
Way to slow frame rate, sorry guys. Close, but no cigar. | User Comment Submitted by Oswald on 16 March 2008
lots of work in this one which I really appreciate, shame I cant really praise it :/ codewise okay, the dot part stands out the most imho. | User Comment Submitted by CreaMD on 16 March 2008
LHS, sorrry. Corrected ;-) | User Comment Submitted by jailbird on 16 March 2008
The vector show and the plotter objects look really nice | User Comment Submitted by LHS on 16 March 2008
CreamD, I'm LHS, not Lord Hypnos :-) | User Comment Submitted by CreaMD on 16 March 2008
LHS, thanx for saving my ass. Btw. PCH's tune playing in second half of the demo is taking the demo the next dimension. It's also quite nice how you kept the demo 1 file so speccy dudes can't apply their usual complaint about us having advantage of downloading all the "animated vector" stuff from disk while playing music ;-)

somehow it didn't work on emulators. I'll try it with the real thing when I get back to home. |
