Great idea, i appreciate prods like this much more than just remade photos... | User Comment Submitted by Stainless Steel on 13 October 2008
Leave Vanja alone !! (and Leon too. and Jailbird .. and)
Gotta appreciate the drama though.
| User Comment Submitted by jailbird on 13 October 2008
When people who're much smarter and open minded than me miss the point of you parodizing almost every single latest picture from Leon, I tend to believe it's about the presentation and hopefully not our comprehension. The difference between my very bad bitching topic jokes and your fine graphics is that Leon actually realizes that I'm just fooling around as luckily we share the same shallow level of oldfashioned toilet humor.
Ask anyone who knows him a bit better or spends more time on the hungarian IRC channel about Leon's devastated outbursts after every adaptation of his work and they'll probably tell the same as I do. Yay, sweet Jeebus, please forgive me for trying to ask for a little compassion towards one of my best friends who's is obviously missing the jokes which lead him to a depressed and annoyed state, up to a level we can't even communicate with him. Oh what an idiotic act it was, I'm truly sorry for bringing it up!
/off to sob a little bit more in the corner for my poor friend's soul :'( | User Comment Submitted by Mermaid on 10 October 2008
Jailbird: Oh dear, spare me your crocodile tears sir, I'm not the one who was photoshopping photos of Leon making fun of him in the Bitching thread when he had left the scene for good so stop trying to make it look like I'm on a crusade against the guy. To repeat myself once again, if anyone else releases anything worth playing with I will happily mutilate their pics too. Yeah, I'm looking at you, beakface.
Krill: both sayings are perfectly valid actually, just because mine isn't as much of a cliché doesn't make it any less true; there's usually a good deal of love for the original subject involved when doing a parody, believe it or not.
CreaMD: What mac sign? That's my subtle signature, obviously.
Conrad: Childish you say, if you are referring to me I must say thank you. What categorizes children? Playfulness, innocence, trustfulness, kindness, naivity. I wish I was more childish than I am.
The lot of you (C64 sceners and lazy no good CSDB lurkers): I love you, despite the fact that you repeatedly miss the point (sometimes, I suspect, on purpose!), my evil black heart beats for you, yes YOU! | User Comment Submitted by CreaMD on 5 October 2008
It would go perfect even without that mac sign. Thanx goes to Shane (and his latest drawing) for pointing me to your latest works ;-) Thoughtful and enjoyable. | User Comment Submitted by jailbird on 4 October 2008
Oh my, then Leon should be the most flattered guy on the scene! Can't recall the last picture from him which wasn't "parodised" by Mermaid.
Now as I think of it, I can understand a slight upset. I wouldn't be too flattered either if every single hard work of mine would be the main subject of a "parody". | User Comment Submitted by Krill on 4 October 2008
"Parody is the highest form of flattery, after all."
Excuse me to be smart-assing, but i think it was imitation, not parody, being the highest form of flattery.
Anyways, it made me smile as it is mildly funny, especially in response to Leon's pic, and nobody should feel wounded by it, or start taking things too seriously.

Quote:Not that strappy heels really fit in with my everyday clothing style :)
Only during the weekends, right?
And blimey! X is during a weekend!
=) | User Comment Submitted by Deev on 1 October 2008
Something about the way those shoe straps appear to dig into the excess skin on the feet makes me feel slightly uncomfortable. Next time I'm tempted to eat junk food, I may just remember that image. Not that strappy heels really fit in with my everyday clothing style :) | User Comment Submitted by Conrad on 1 October 2008
Moloch, would you be so kind and not talk about that c*nt on here please? cheers.
as for the picture, I do admire Mermaid and Leon's work, but a "pixel war" on CSDB is a bit childish to me. Sorry. | User Comment Submitted by Moloch on 1 October 2008 User Comment Submitted by FATFrost on 30 September 2008
@beanpaid >8),i like this can i have the top/middle half please? | User Comment Submitted by Hein on 30 September 2008
I think this picture could've done without the Americanism context, but the picture does depict the flaws of Leon's picture well. Hmmmm, flaws are in the eyes of the beholder, ugh. | User Comment Submitted by Mermaid on 30 September 2008
Stainless Steel: I think the scene has more than enough people doing that sort of thing already tbh. | User Comment Submitted by Stainless Steel on 30 September 2008
Vanja : i was thinking about some other anatomy.
We needs more Boris Vallejo covers :-D
| User Comment Submitted by Mermaid on 30 September 2008
Stainless Steel: Not really. Unfinished Face, and there are plenty of other examples too. | User Comment Submitted by Stainless Steel on 30 September 2008
Quoting Vanjainnovative things instead .. some other piece of female anatomy, completely devoid of any deeper meaning
Actually, in your case that WOULD be innovative :-D
Quoting Vanjathough I'm sure some of you suspect I used my foot to do this one
That thought came into my mind. | User Comment Submitted by Mermaid on 30 September 2008
WEC: oh dear, are you going to make me post workstages now? Yes, this was "hand pixeled", lol, though I'm sure some of you suspect I used my foot to do this one.
Scout: I know, right? I should really start drawing original and innovative things instead, like a woman's face...or some other piece of female anatomy, completely devoid of any deeper meaning, that'd be fresh :) | User Comment Submitted by The Shadow on 30 September 2008
Talented creations as always Vanja!!! | User Comment Submitted by Moloch on 30 September 2008
Oct. 1 (Bloomberg) -- The euro traded near a two-week low against the dollar on speculation governments will bail out more European banks after France and Belgium led a state-backed rescue of Dexia SA.
A $9.2 billion capital infusion for Dexia, the world's biggest lender to local governments, comes two days after Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg rescued Fortis, the largest Belgian financial-services company, Britain took control of Bradford & Bingley Plc, the country's biggest lender to landlords, and Germany bailed out Hypo Real Estate Holding AG.
(Reality, it's not just a US problem.)
(PS - Love the picture, if Leon is insulted by it, time to get a harder shell? Also, haven't had a bite to eat at McDonalds in over twenty years.) | User Comment Submitted by Radiant on 29 September 2008
Lots of people with ideas here. Ed seems to be on to something.
Spelling out an underlying message would kinda make it pointless, right? And let's remember, a picture is worth a thousand words. Don't trivialize. Sometimes the art is the message. | User Comment Submitted by leonofsgr on 29 September 2008 User Comment Submitted by Poison on 29 September 2008
It's not parody any more. It's simply lame. Vanja seems to be bored... | User Comment Submitted by Scout on 29 September 2008
Never thought I would ever write this about a Mermaid picture; I don't like it.
It's not the pixelling style but the topic. It's just yet another FU to corporate & obese America. Seen it a thousand times.
Oh well...can't satisfy everyone, right? | User Comment Submitted by Stainless Steel on 29 September 2008
I like the idea but I find the execution to leave a lot to be desired. Vanja has made better pics.
| User Comment Submitted by Ed on 29 September 2008
Once upon a time we tried something similar but everything that is related to gender questions, ideological questioning, philosophical questions, questions concerning taste and what is considered 'high' and 'low' seem mistaken for something else in this scene.
Unfortunately it does not seem like it's possible to advance any further but to continue wearing those old funky smelling panties of 'finest streamline'. | User Comment Submitted by Alias Medron on 29 September 2008
on a second look....
i see a chick getting naked infront of what represents a part of the american way of life.. and in when i bring in mind the current state of the US economy and make the connection it is sad indeed..
so, aftreall , welldone Vanja. | User Comment Submitted by Mermaid on 29 September 2008
lol FMan, you're so utterly predictable :) | User Comment Submitted by yago on 29 September 2008
The recent financial breakdowns on wallstreet force the americans to pull their belts tighter, some unfortunate souls even have to strip pants to get their money for food. | User Comment Submitted by Ninja on 29 September 2008
Cool! This makes me want to draw graphics, just for the slightest chance that Mermaid might do a persiflage once. I would feel very honored :) | User Comment Submitted by saehn on 29 September 2008
Hey... this is what the girl in "Ripeness" was doing just before I drew her! Copier! ;-) | User Comment Submitted by Mermaid on 29 September 2008
I'd like to make it perfectly clear that my picture isn't about poking fun at Leon at all; if anything I guess it can be seen as a comment on the way people everywhere have embraced the worst sides of American bad habits, here represented by McDonalds. If the original picture had been drawn by someone else, Mirage or Tempest or DeeKay or Jailbird or whoever, I would still have made my version. | User Comment Submitted by DeeKay on 29 September 2008
Nice pic, but I'm still trying to decipher the underlying message. The fat chick takes off her slip to get some free burgers at McD in exchange for sexual favors? | User Comment Submitted by SIDWAVE on 29 September 2008
An american woman undresses in front of a MacDonalds ? weiiiird!
Cool sureal paint style! | User Comment Submitted by HCL on 29 September 2008
@Zyron: Oh man, it doesn't matter if you have the american or european style there. Doing that is just forbidden!! I mean.. showing the upper edge is teasy, showing the lower edge spoils it all! | User Comment Submitted by Mermaid on 29 September 2008
Jailbird: If certain other people would release pictures that inspired me I'd happily go play with their work instead, but they don't (edit: except JSL's sheep pic), so there you go. Parody is the highest form of flattery, after all.
Alias Medron: dunno, personally I just find it sad. Though I prefer slightly chubby to anorectic for sure. | User Comment Submitted by Zyron on 29 September 2008
Leon's & Mermaid's pictures together make me think of this:
| User Comment Submitted by jailbird on 29 September 2008
@vanja: Leon tends to misunderstand the happenings around CSDb, especially the mocks based on his works. I know how hard it is to him, and we all spend a lot of time explaining your real intentions while he's on the floor, all fucked up. | User Comment Submitted by Shadow on 29 September 2008 User Comment Submitted by Alias Medron on 29 September 2008
hmm...
where's the funny part??
| User Comment Submitted by Mermaid on 29 September 2008
Jailbird: I didn't know Leon was American and/or affiliated with McDonalds :( Sorry. | User Comment Submitted by chatGPZ on 29 September 2008 User Comment Submitted by jailbird on 29 September 2008
I'm starting to feel very bad for Leon. Especially as I'm pretty sure he'll have another depressing, dejected reaction after clicking on this. :(
Btw. of course it's not your fault Vanja. Leon is like a delicate flower who needs a huge dose of love and appreciation for feeling good about himself <3 |
