Thanks for the nice comments everyone. You keep me going. As for the question about this being a self portrait - well, I shure wish I had a head of hair as good as this bloke. I guess there are some similarities when I look at it now. It is not a look-in-the-mirror self portrait, though, unlike one of my other C64 pictures. ;)

Awww, I feel for the poor guy!
Is it a self portrait, Archmage? :)

i really like the way the colours are composed in this one - the cutting contrast really brings the pic out like a slap to the face, a bit like the person in the pic :) nice one archie!

It is a massive display of talent, taste, decition and determination this one. It is absolutely stunning and so well created that I just have to take my hat off and boil it for supper... WOW what a cool image and style you have found here... I know what you say about the blured images in a way... this is sharp and fresh and new to me... really great! Shape is a group that for me were very special because I were in and because my friends are in and were in. I also think shape is a classy group in a way, even the members look like shit and have bad manners... he he... but true, I love shape and always I have done so. The phoenix demo really were a display of taste and style back then and ever scince I just loved the group. I think you are one of the absolute best additions to the group in its history, no one can top unitrax for me but hey, that is just me...

The best graphician on the C-64. Of course he is norwegian, and of course he is in Shape. We can't spoil the fun by letting him win every time.

I knew it before the party: You are King Kong and there is no match against you :)
One must fail and fail good. I do still like the refreshing touch Veto did on his image,
otherwise Mermaid is one hell of a Queen on the subject as well, although she didn't participate...

Yeah, i agree the non dithering really adds to a new kind of style. Dithering would turn this piece into something more common. I believe there's an interesting path to go there! (the proof is above here :)

@Everybody: thanks for the nice comments people!

@Twoflower & Deekay. Those are valid points about the dithering and shading, but the absence of these elements is a result of a conscious decision on my part. I think a lot of C64 gfx comes across as "fluffy" (for lack of better words), and that is mostly the result of people not mastering or losing control when it comes to the aforementioned techniques. I know for one that this has happened to some of my pictures in the past. I wanted the colours in this image to come across as brutally distinct and burning and arrogant without any filter, so I chose to try a new approach instead of going down the same old road. Looking at it now there are a few spots that could need some fixing (where the chars show too much mainly), but time ran out so I had to choose between releasing or sitting on it - perhaps forever. I chose releasing for the sake of the LCP gfx-competition, and I am glad I did. Being beat by Oys and Veto leaves me hungry still. Mark my words, I'll get you bastards the next time! :D

@Twoflower: How do you do antialias in hires?

Really nice pic, although I have to agree with Deekay concerning the technique. The colorhandling, composition and choice of motive is great, but it lacks some of the polish (antialias, dithering, etc.) which would have made it gleam like a straight 10.

Ok, I think this one clearly says that I should keep my feeble hires attempts unreleased. What a striking style and fresh way of using colors. Archmage has taken the limited c64 palette and really made it his own.

Sickeningly good. Straight ten from me, but im not even sure that is enough. Archmage you blew me away with this one. Killed all others in the gfx compo in a split second for me.

This one is stunning. Not my absolute fave from the compo collection - but still, f'n great. If I was there voting - you would give me hard time to decide if I like Joe's pic to #1 or this one...
