Technically this is a crack yes and also a rebuild. The original on tape was so badly bugged that it would have made games that weren't. It was released though by Rabbit Software back in 1983. TheRyk worked tirelessly on this release every night for one month until completion. This release most accurately can be called a rebuild.

I liked the intro (except that it 'flips' from time to time) and (actually) the Fredrik-tune at the titlescreen too. Is it a cover of something or a original tune?

Nice release which shows a lot of work that went into it. Also nice group-effort. Please add the "original supply" credit for The Shadow again - credit where credit is due! And for all involved in this little production, especially TheRyk: thumbs up, just ignore the naggers. :)

"According to the CSDb rules it is a crack of course, anything changed on a game published by someone else is."
indeed ... and therefor the "code" credit should probably also be changed to "crack" :)

If it's a matter of database integrity, the db-model should be adjusted.

Dude save the sacrifical martryism its just a plain and simple matter of database integrity nothing to do with underdeveloped egos or penis sizes.

Oh and what rough said those other releases should have "crack" removed aswell :-D

According to the CSDb rules it is a crack of course, anything changed on a game published by someone else is.
I haven't checked the original tape but assuming it's like most of those early/mid 80s UK tapes it at least will have an auto-start. This actually is a copy protection.

ps: most cracks published in the early 90s are done from original copies like plain copies of unprotected Cp-Verlag files or memory saves $0800-$FFFF from budget UK tapes spread by scene swappers, so someone better remove the 'C64 crack' label from those CSDb entries.. ;)

Narf. Always the same... Can't please everybody. If there is a next time, I might ask some expert to create that entry.

Must everything be "seriously" a crack...? But to yer question: Though I know that some ppl interpret the term cracking more generously these days, unlike Mafia (which I didn't lable crack inspite of the protection, because it wasn't a copy protection but just weird encoding) there wasn't any protection on Murder, that's why I suggested changing it into C64Game type to make purists happy, though it is not seriously an "own game" release either if you ask me, strictly speaking it's a hack or a fix which both do not exist as a category. I don't see myself as a cracker anyway and I don't wank on credits every night, so I removed Crack credit. Shadow removed Ori-Supply himself.

Maybe this is enough to let the CSDb deputies sleep tonight.

PS: Sorry to pollute this exquisite database again with a terrible release. I should have known that I prevent poor uberl33t hardcore sceners from just ignoring it by the category Crack. Next game will be sth own again, flame you later. :P

Thumbs up for The Ryk, nice little release.

I improved several BASIC games years ago too, so I know these are a lot more work than the average assembler game.

ps. the game is from 1983, published by Rabbit Software, a British company. So how the fuck do you guys get the idea of a "self-written game"?

First I was like "OMFG, US Gold's Murder, finally found!!!". But this is pretty cool too. ;)
