"I understand you might try to keep some ordnung here, but slowly it turns out to be some kind of a circus."
Booker managed to squeeze Groepaz personality in one simple sentence. I've been looking for something like this long time, thank You :)

But yes... schematic would be nice... some sheets of electronic papers which give's You nothing. Ultimate could be open sourced in the same way and i doubt, that "people could built it" with no inside. It's just a German formality ;-)

Ok is there the magic? C64 mobo can run at 4Mhz speed. If you force CPU to run at 2Mhz and move his clock to position which does not interfere with VIC acccess to memory, you will get TDC. It take some time to fix problem with access to VIC and SID registers but... it works.
The story of 4Mhz is like c128 in c64 mode. You have colour random squares on the screen if you force CPU to run at 4Mhz so I've decided to force CPU to run at 2 Mhz at bad line, 3 Mhz at long/normal line, and 4 Mhz on borders. CPU power at 4Mhz mode is about 3.5 faster as is in 1Mhz mode. I found benchmark on internet (some FP calculations in BASIC) so 1Mhz takes 1m41s and 4Mhz mode takes 29s.
Knowing side effects:
- TDC(d1) doesn't work with 1541U at 2/4Mhz speed,
- in 4Mhz mode you can't change $01, because this register is attached to 6502 core and it's very slow (it work's at 2Mhz and propobly at 3Mhz)
- old cards like AR, MMCReplay, FC3 dosn't work in 2/4Mhz mode.
- old cards like BlackBox or FC2 (and rest with one EPROM and one TTL) works in 2Mhz mode.
- timers of CIA are conected to CPU clock and they running faster.

TDC as opposed to SPCU uses standard 6510 (8500) CPU so it works with all software made for c64. For gamers and demo watchers I've added "turbo switch mode" to make demos working faster with I/O and raster efects compatibility. On board you can find three presets slow medium and fast. For example Coma Light 12 works on fast setting, and Mathematica can run only with slow. If software doesn't change $d030 it is possible to run turbo switch mode at 4Mhz speed, you have to set one bit in $d030 and press turbo button.
Last knowing issue, you can't speedup IFLI, FLI, cycle exact routines and one frame vectors they are looks THE SAME ;)
it would be nice if the team would improve the VICE emulator code

if CSDB Drama (TM) is over, i'm interested in this hardware. since i'm not able to build the hardware myself, i'd like to know more about its capabilities before the useless (for me) schematics. we all know SuperCPU and similar hardwares. i know 6502 based chips can run >1 Mhz. but i also know it's limited to 1 Mhz to work synched with VIC chip. Now, what's the magic here? What are the side effects? For example will 2 Mhz mode give us a similar performance with C128? What about 4 Mhz mode and raster timings? Tell me about it.

I also repeat my request of a tech demo video. a short technicial detail documentation wouldn't hurt as well.

edit: i haven't visited the website. it seems there is some information. please fill "production notes" etc. here as well. I don't have the habbit to check web urls of CSDB entries.

I remember beeing at scala software (amiga based) and there I had the chance to meet a dude called peter cherna I think his name were, I told him about my love for the c64 and amiga and two or three weeks later there were a c65 computer in the scala lab just for the fun as he had some of these... it were all on a plank board but it worked... he also brought in some early amiga models like the 4000 and so on, this were early on... it was fun.

edit... not 4000 as they were out at that time but some other models that were never out... can not remember what they were called... but they must had a lot of things never released... this were in the early nineties and I just thought it were so cool, as I thought the commodore days were nearing a end he just had all these strange things.

edit II: I remember now that he had a graphics card for the amiga with super colors that were fast I think this were a danish company that created some sort of a video paint system on that, tvpaint system in a way... it were all realtime paint as you go on the fly and with frame to frame software in full sd resolution.... hmmm what great memories.

Please, If you want to know more about my hardware project called TDC, just ask me.
The Designers of C64 made huge work with C64 board and it was possible to run c64 at 4Mhz in early 90's. That's amazing thing, and all ugly/trolling speaking will rest in peace, even if you are moderator.

well, wether you can "live from it" is a totally different thing :) individual computers for example also makes a bunch of "modern" things, it probably couldnt exist just from the retro stuff. and gideon for example has a regular day job besides his 1541u business. (and i guess the same is true for the ppl behind IDE64, or jim brain)

I could never imagine that anyone could live from manufacturing c64 hardware in the year 2011... if the case is that this happens, I am stunned and full of admiration... fantastic it is!

"did not even know that were possible."
the truth is, that manufacturing and selling hardware like the mentioned products isnt really possible if you dont do it commercially. (unless you have a lot of money to waste ofcourse)

ok Groepaz... ok... I just ment it is cool that people do create something... COOL!!! And yes that is really hard for me to imagine and did not even know that were possible.

stuff for the c64 in 2011..... commercial!

it may be hard for you to realise, but there are infact a few people who still make good money from it. for me it was the primary and only income the past 5 years, to name just one =)

Quoting Lemming
or even EasyFlash as a 'hardware release' entry here either

Try now.

"I also agree the HW author should publish the schematics for the release to be here. Otherwise it appears as commercial, meaning author only uses CSDb to PR the release and get ppl to buy it from him."
exactly. and thats why there are no entries for IDE64, MMC64, MMCR, 1541u, Chameleon etc. all of them were (some more, some less) made by sceners - but they are all commercial products and not scene releases.

Groepaz, yeh, seems C64 Cartridge would be a proper class for them.

I also agree the HW author should publish the schematics for the release to be here. Otherwise it appears as commercial, meaning author only uses CSDb to PR the release and get ppl to buy it from him.

Won't hurt to say it in the FAQ. ;)

Apologies for the misunderstandings anyway.

Still this is new idea, this was never the case. Don't you think people should know some rules?

i have given up the idea that people even read them, let alone care =P

Quote:
As it was for instance with releases like Action Replay Hacked uploaded by AFAIK one of the CSDb creators hanging around for 10 years on here, with no schematics.

this (and other cartridge dumps) are just wrongly classified as hardware.

and as for other entries with no schematics and/or info - i just checked them. every single one is by a certain kisiel - please fix them asap if you dont want moloch to jump on them =P

Right. As Kisiel did attach the schematics this is not the case anymore. Means I can delete my drama comment.

@Groepaz, there are many C64 Hardware entries on CSDb without schematics. What is this category for?

it is there to collect hardware projects made by sceners, for sceners. and to constitute a release that makes it useful for other sceners, there must be the information attached to it needed by sceners to build it.

if you just want to show off whatever you built, make a website for it. if you dont give it away, then it is not a release. (the word kindof hints on that)

If we're playing silly buggers then if this entry gets deleted, I will request my account to be deleted off csdb. And also I will encourage all the people I know to do the same.

@Groepaz, there are many C64 Hardware entries on CSDb without schematics. What is this category for? What is CSDb for? To satify your quite often weird ideas about C64 portal, or is CSDb to provide historical info about the C64, the C64 scene and stuff?

I understand you might try to keep some ordnung here, but slowly it turns out to be some kind of a circus.

@Groepaz,
I'm not the author of Easy Flash, if you found Game System useful for scene community ask author about entry. I think it wouldn't be any problem with it.

i have infact deleted such entries in the past, and will continue to do so.

so indeed, upload schematics/info - or delete. and yes, make an entry for easyflash instead =)

@ motionn can you give me a link where I'm refering to amibay? Maybe on amibay?
@ lemming good idea.
@ enthusi so far easy flash is made for new/cracked/stolen games not demos.
TDC is made for new and old demos.

Easyflash would fit in well though.
The design is from/for scene and its open, not commercial ;-)

Totally agree, in fact, have brought this up before with staff members and none seem to want to take a stance on these sort of entries.

I fail to see how a commercial product is a 'C64 Scene Release'. I don't see Chameleon, 1541U or even EasyFlash as a 'hardware release' entry here either.

Put some schemantics there so people can build it, maybe then it could classify as a release.

Why not setup a proper page where people can order this accelerator directly from you instead of referring to amibay where you have to register an account to be able to post in forum X that you have an interest in buying this?
