Again a fantastic picture. I can't seem to get over the pretty, symmetrical line of the lower part of the helmet which I think spoils the "roughness" of the pic a little, but I love the fact that this picture is crowded with nice details. This is one of those eye-opening pictures that wakes me up and says "look what's possible in petscii!"

What can I say.. but pure brilliance.. The technique used as well as applying dither effects using the rom charset. Clever use of characters to capture small parts of the image in detail.
Also bear in mind that the further limitation is that each 8x8 block can only have 1 color (with the second color shared throughout the whole image - black in this case)

And space usage.. only 1500 bytes semi unpacked. 1000 bytes chardata and 500 bytes nibble packed d800 data. Would probably compress quite a lot further using lz methods.

Wowsers!

@deekay: read some other yogi-comments - you'll quickly figure that this one is outstanding and far off his usual wording :)

Now lay a plasma over it! Nice graphics don't need resolution, i recently really enjoy all the great new pictures on stock colorclashing Hires or PETAscii.

Seems like X'14 urgently needs an official petscii-compo!

Thanks for your kind comments guys!

TheRyk: Tom Hanks? Cool, I like him :) I'll have to rewatch Saving Private Ryan one of these days. I already added Platoon and Full Metal Jacket to my must-watch-again list. He's not really meant to be anyone except random_generic_soldier_from_mermaid's_brain_01, at one point he was some sort of space marine. I left those workstages out of the gifanim because the sci-fi bits might evolve into a new picture one day.

Only thing I miss is a pack of Marlboro or Lucky Strike on the helmet as a better target for Charlie as seen in Platoon :D
btw#1, apropos Platoon/Charlie: omg, Charlie Sheen once was a really promising if not even pretty good actor... what has become of him, really sad
btw#2: the guy looks more like Tom Hanks - another detail I love :D

BTT: Another ultra excellent entry, in any respect. What I like most are the colors.

But if everybody had believed "OMG we have a winner"/"Compo killer" etc. comments before, we wouldn't have seen any pics after Gary which would have been a pity. This one as well as your other entry are for sure hot favourites, though. I'm looking forward to at least one more entry by you (I guess that's all I can ask for because a 4th entry would mean you had to label one of the best entries in the competition as "out of").

PS: Thx also for the workstages :)

Simply stunning. All of a sudden, can't help but think there might be more potential to graphic adventures programmed in BASIC than I ever thought. :)
