Unbelievable for a comeback after 25 yrs!!! | User Comment Submitted by DATA-LAND on 23 January 2015
I'm always happy to see again new games for our system with new game ideas (or imported ideas). So it extends the spectrum - that's great! Excellent release! | User Comment Submitted by Wanax on 10 January 2015
Very funny, and easy to play ...:) | User Comment Submitted by ron.sos on 11 December 2014
Love this game and just have to play it again and again.. | User Comment Submitted by Hate Bush on 8 December 2014
Italy rules this year's compo (so far). | User Comment Submitted by TheRyk on 7 December 2014
So far my personal favorite in this year's competition :)
What everyone said, also about "make this an app if nobody did yet and make some money". | User Comment Submitted by Yogibear on 2 December 2014
Nice game with cool speech! | User Comment Submitted by Richard on 2 December 2014
A very simple concept using one control. Very addictive. Excellent game overall. | User Comment Submitted by tonysavon on 2 December 2014
@Lazycow The samples in the intro "welcome to p0 snake" are 8-bit and I use Mahoney's technique: p0-snake detects the SID model and uses the appropriate amplitude table. The in-game samples are just normal digi that can be played along with music. The compression of the samples gave me the headache: I ended up using a codebook based compression scheme with variable codebook size (4 to 64 samples per codebook) and variable sample-rate in the range between 4 and 8 khz (formants like vowels require a lower sample rate). The codebooks are "unrolled" in the actual code to be easy on the player, given that I could use the entire 64k space at playtime. I think that the entire speech part takes about 4 kbytes. To be honest it would have sounded much better if I only had a couple of kbytes more, as I had to be very aggressive with destructive compression to stay within the 16kb limit. In fact, after the compo, I might release a 18 kbyte version with clearer speech :-). | User Comment Submitted by Wanax on 2 December 2014 User Comment Submitted by Lazycow on 2 December 2014
How did you play the samples and how much bytes did they use?
PS: "welldone" ;) | User Comment Submitted by Hammerfist on 2 December 2014
Is there an iPhone app for this already? Perhaps you could make some money! :D | User Comment Submitted by Sixteen Plus on 2 December 2014
A very original take on the Snake theme. The quirky control works brilliantly and brings the whole Snake genre to a higher level. This fun and highly polished little game deserves to do well :) | User Comment Submitted by iceout on 2 December 2014
Nice game for a comeback! | User Comment Submitted by Achim on 2 December 2014 User Comment Submitted by Roysterini on 2 December 2014
I think this may be my favourite entry so far. Pixel City Skater comes hot on its heels though.
Not that I dislike the other entries. I'm enjoying them all. | User Comment Submitted by Jammer on 2 December 2014
I hope not to sound like a grumbler :D It's really one of the best I played in recent years! :) | User Comment Submitted by tonysavon on 2 December 2014
Docs with screenshots and a few passwords for you are up now.
Thanks | User Comment Submitted by tonysavon on 2 December 2014
@Jammer yes, it's by no means an easy game, I'm sorry! I spent quite some time calibrating difficulty with the help of some friends, so I hope everyone can make progress with perseverance. I can now get to level 15 on a single game, and I can finish it using the continues (though with maaaany attempts), but I had to play it so much to test it that I guess that's normal :-P.
@didi docs incoming. Thanks! | User Comment Submitted by Didi on 2 December 2014
Why don't you upload the txt-file here along with the game, as it belongs to it? | User Comment Submitted by Jammer on 2 December 2014
That's what I was afraid of ;) I'd say game is demanding enough :D Anyway, probably my favourite from this year's 16KB bunch ;) | User Comment Submitted by Doc Strange on 2 December 2014
@Jammer: Codes are given every two levels, so you will get a new when you reach the fourth one. Coder will probably confirm. :) | User Comment Submitted by tonysavon on 2 December 2014
Thanks everybody. I'm really flattered by this unexpected response and for your kind comments! This community is unbelievable.
@Jammer the game gives you passwords only for even levels. It would be like having infinite lives otherwise ;-). The RGCD release comes with a handy readme.txt that will give you all the details. There are more samples when you advance to further levels like "TELEPORT!". And maybe some skilled players can find some Easter eggs? I'm just saying ;-) | User Comment Submitted by Jammer on 2 December 2014
OMG, what an awesome game! Great idea and mad programming skills ;) If only 'crunch' sample fit in those 16KB, I would give 11/10 :D
I probably spotted a mistake. I got to level 3 but game gave me level 2 code after game over. | User Comment Submitted by chatGPZ on 2 December 2014 User Comment Submitted by skull on 2 December 2014
Wow, I'm impressed, excellent work. Idea, presentation, gameplay, gfx, samples, all in 16 kb! Top note. | User Comment Submitted by Oswald on 2 December 2014 User Comment Submitted by Nith on 2 December 2014
