@Bitbreaker
I wanted to do a backlight. I put the dog further forward in relation to the lamp post (so the light is in the back).
The face is illuminated by an off-camera light source. For the shirt, I tested several folds but it weighed down the readability, so I simplified. The shirt has been ironed :)

Very cool picture! I like the building with the lamp. Reminds me of a graphic adventure, for example The Pawn or Guild of Thieves. 😊

I really like the left side of this picture! :D
Reminds me instantly to some Sherlock Holmes movies (Basil Rathbone)! :)

I like the background and the light situation at the wall, but the dog's head looks glued into the setting as it is lighted from the opposite side, not by the lantern. I'd appreciate if the shirt of the smoking would have received more love.

@Wile Coyote
There's so much production on C64 that I missed "Zeros & Ones". I will correct this now. :)

@Wile Coyote
As you wrote, everyone has their own way of working. I draw with multipaint and since I don't have a lot of time in my day, I set myself drawing goals. That's why I draw by section. I do my textures until it suits me (This is the final steps of the sections you see in my animated gif). You can see on the end images that I'm doing some editing.

I had the idea of the dog in a costume, then I had a breakdown of ideas, so he stayed there for several months. It was while watching an old black and white movie that I had the idea of putting the dog in a dark alley. So it's a tribute to old crime movies.

Finally, many people on CSDB judge a drawing on the technique and not on the content, the atmosphere and the emotion it provides. I try to be original and for me the technique used does not matter, even if it is important. When I look at a painting that I love and that gives me emotions, I don't care how it was painted....

The wall is great! The light that is reflected has a nice effect. The main hunk in a jacket is elegant! I like this job very much ;-)

It is (nearly) always interesting seeing work stages.
I could never quite work out how some manage to create a section of picture, move onto another area of the picture and never alter/adjust older pixels.
I guess different people work in different ways.
