I'm sure that if generative AI (like chatGPT) was additionally trained and reinforced "for C64 pixel art" (fed on images by real C64 artists) and all it's technical constraints specific to gfx formats, it would be able to mimic any pixelling, palette and content generated so far. I don't know if it's good or bad actually. From the point of view of coder, that would mean you could have perfect c64 GFX generator for any idea you have. From the perspective of pixel artists this would mean total change of paradigm. I don't think use of AI to generate content would necessarily replace the artist, but I think sooner or later digital art will/might use AI as a traineable tool. With traineable AI, graphician might teach and finetune it to his liking, and I'm quite sure it might help them to experiment with new (pixelling) ideas and color schemes (art styles), and whatever. AI is considered dangerous for it's ability to mimic value and quality, but in the end, all it produces is similar stuff over and over which sooner or later would be considered mediocre. It might be useful for it's abilityu to "learn" and "hallucinate", which is more or less (in my honest opinion) equivalent to *drill* that everyone needs to master the craft, and *creativity* that arise from freedom that years of drill enables.
Watever happens, it will push us somewhere. I'm not optimistic that it will be the best direction for humanity, and I'm not optimistic that we are prepared for what's going to happen, or that I will like it. I'm not an artist, but the fact that my income depends on working in digital environment as a web designer and programmer increases the level of anxiety ;-), AI is capable of mimciking that too. | User Comment Submitted by Wile Coyote on 18 December 2023
I have to admit.. that looks good.
When you think back to the days of not so good looking loading screens, knocked out in a day for licensed games, the likes of Stephen Warhid might not have existed.
Creating an image using AI and then converting it..
What about a dedicated AI that is 100% focused on the C64 and the results it might produce. |
