It's difficult to see in the screenshot, but each char is shaded in 8bpp and then intensity modulated on top of that.

I see, looks to be undoable on a stock 64 in this case :)

@oswald: Perhaps, but I'm not so sure.
The routine allows arbitrary 8bpp background graphics. 55 chars x/y positioned in 8bpp with separate intensity per char.

The whole point of the demos was to do something fun using the blitter, hence the name.
Maybe someone wishes to redo it using cpu only? ;)

hmm why do you need a blitter for this? looks doable on a stock c64... except the colors...
