@Style: Yes, that is what I am aiming for here. A compact detector for use in demos, or to select speed enhancements in decrunchers and similar.
My first aim was to detect DTV2/DTV3 for blitter bug checking.
For music playback I want to be able to detect no_sid,6581,8580,DTV1,DTV2/3

Possibly this could be split into a "decruncher" check routine (i.e SCPU,C128,DTV2/3) and a "demo" check routine.

@viscid: Nice utility! A little large for what I am doing, but none the less useful.

tlr: I have a 128 and several c64c's. If you need me to run some tests let me know.

Itd be cool to have a nice, short hardware detect routine.

Useful for some Demos maybe...

@tlr I made such a Utility back in 1996 (for Sidchips and most hardware available in those days). You can check it at npl.de (download: http://www.npl.de/download/NplTooldisk.zip). If you want to continue... feel welcome ;)

Maybe its time to do a big big plug n play detection routine. :)
You can detect the kernal version/charrom/drive version/ there are rom images at funet.fi, and do a checksum.
(and of-course, C65)
You can detect plus4/vic20 at first, as I remember some screen pointer are on the same place, but has different address (of course, at these, you should not check toward. :)

a can search somewhere at home my z80 cart detection routine too...
and aftewr this of-course, releasing the source is useful.

@Style:
That was my original intention.
I only have 2 6581 machines here + VICE + CCS64 + DTV3, so I have a little too few machines to run on though. I'll try constructing some tests.
I wanted to get this out the door first for people to check their DTVs. There seem to be mainly DTV2 cores before batch 051005.

I laid out the routine at $c000-$c0be for easy access and examination.
Is there interest in the source of the detector?
