Two thumbs up for writing such a broad software on C64 as early as 83/84 and then putting it all together for a release some 20 years later.
I wonder if Georg has tried to publish it back then. I can only imagine that it would probably be put into wide use, especially after that Synth Sample demo.
I wish that more people who have some software still hidden somewhere follow Georg's example and release them. Imagine how many music and graphic editors, development systems would surface then. | User Comment Submitted by Zyron on 3 February 2008
Awesome! Gotta check this. I used to listen to the Synth Sample-tracks for hours back then, now I get the chance to see how they were actually created. | User Comment Submitted by Frantic on 28 November 2007 User Comment Submitted by georgie on 28 November 2007
Hi all... due to popular demand for documentation I just spent most of the night reformatting the Synth help file into a .txt file. It's now added to the release (same zip file name, just re-download).
I wrote a complete Synth manual years ago but all that's left is a crusty line printer output, can't find the disk for it. If I ever do I'll post it. | User Comment Submitted by d0c on 27 November 2007
thanks for the history georgie, now things fall in place :) things like this is very important.
a manual in a pc .txt format would be nice , if possible please include this.... | User Comment Submitted by SIDWAVE on 27 November 2007
I managed to load a tune, and do COMPILE, then PLAY. but i cant find any instrument editor, or note-sequencer. Am I just dumb ? it would rock with a real manual.txt you can have open on pc while working in the editor. | User Comment Submitted by JackAsser on 27 November 2007
@georgie: Fascinating! The Synth Sample demo meant a lot to me as a 5 year old kid back then. ;D | User Comment Submitted by georgie on 27 November 2007
Geez, you guys are picky :)
Synth was written starting in 1983 and was used to create the Synth Sample demo. The demo got distributed and morphed into other forms by various people, but Synth itself was never released (ok an early version got leaked accidentally way back when but I don't think it's around now). So this is the first real release with some tweaks and bug fixes too minor to justify updating the copyright year (also the intro screen is old). I've been out of the C64 scene for years so please be kind... after Synth I wrote a MIDI version for C64 then got into bands and producing music using Logic, Cubase & modern virtual synths. I'll be telling the long version of the story at World of Commodore on Dec 1.
Thanks for the screendump fix,
Georg
P.S. The PAL comment is probably not serious but in case anyone is wondering Synth can auto sense PAL/NTSC and correct note frequencies & timing. Finished music as in Synth Sample is locked in though, so in the release you'll find both PAL and NTSC versions of a slightly updated Synth Sample. | User Comment Submitted by d0c on 26 November 2007
so this was made in 1986 and not released before 2007??? or this was released in 1986 but not cracked/fixed before 2007?? i am a bit confused here, anyone that can give me an answer? | User Comment Submitted by cba on 26 November 2007 User Comment Submitted by JackAsser on 26 November 2007 User Comment Submitted by Stainless Steel on 26 November 2007

Anyone interested in doing a PAL-fix? ;-) | User Comment Submitted by Mace on 26 November 2007
Screwing up a screendump (yes, the name is in this case even more true than ever) like this, is just a matter of a bad palette conversion. | User Comment Submitted by Steppe on 26 November 2007
How on earth did you manage to mess up the screendump so badly? Honestly, I'd be interested in your "technique"! ;-) | User Comment Submitted by CreaMD on 26 November 2007
Good idea I've got entry for next year's Forever 9 gfx compo on monday. Maybe I should add it to the unreleased releases. | User Comment Submitted by cba on 26 November 2007
Well I will upload all X-2008 demos today, so don't worry Scout ;) | User Comment Submitted by Scout on 26 November 2007
